Over the past couple of months I have had random occurrences of my 2005 F430 getting “stuck” in gear. It seems to happen more often after aggressive driving than it does during casual cruising. It will get stuck in a random gear and the F1 light will illuminate briefly. After multiple tries to shift it will finally shift, or if I downshift it will resume normal operation. It typically occurs only once during a couple hour drive. It doesn’t happen with every drive but probably occurs every other drive. This past week there was a change. After driving my car there were no issues, I parked it in my garage. Next time I went to start it was showing in 3rd gear. It would not turn over. I tried shifting into neutral, up shifted, down shifted- nothing. I checked every fuse. Replaced the F1 relay… no change. In my frustration I started hitting the start button while randomly hitting the F1 paddles. Unexpectedly after a few minutes of fidgeting it went into neural and started. I left it run at idle for about 20 minutes. I turned it off and then immediately tried to start again. It was showing in 3rd gear again. I turned it off and let it sit for a few minutes. Put the key back it and it showed first gear. I put it in neutral and was able to start it. I drove it around an hour or two and decided to stop for dinner. Went back out to the car after and it started right up. Car ran perfectly. I drove it home and parked it. A few days later I decide to go for a drive- 3rd gear again. I fidgit- the car starts but this time the yellow Engine control system malfunction light comes on. The car acts normally otherwise. I back my car out of the garage and start to go for a drive. I notice after i get moving that the gears will not engage other than 3rd gear. I down shift to 2nd, nothing. Downshift ton1st gear, nothing. I shift back to 3rd gear and it’s in gear. I quickly head back home and somehow get my car up my drive and into the garage in 3rd gear. Just looking for some guidance on what it could be. Car has 14K miles on it. Supposedly 85% clutch left. I’ll schedule an appointment with my mechanic on Monday but would like to know if there is anything I can try in the meantime to try and revolve this. The weather is great and I hate to miss a few nice weekends of driving. I will say that I had the car at a shop to install new headlights and also some rock chip repair. I noticed that they accessed the battery while it was in the shop because they re-installed the battery cover improperly in the footwell so they may have jump started the car at some point.

Definitely talk to @flash32 . He helped me fix similar issue I had, and it was the ediff solenoid losing pressure and causing the F1 to get stuck in gear.

The system will stop the pump from running when it cycles too often to protect it from burning out for 45 seconds or so, so you won't have pressure and no gear changes. Could be many other things, but Dominick will get to the bottom of it for sure. Good luck.

Do you have a Launch, Foxwell, Thinkdiag, etc to scan and update the tcu? You’ll need it to view the system parameters. You could also use it to try a simple F1 relearn and get lucky it fixes it.

Don’t know when the accumulator was last replaced? Could be losing pressure there? Dominic will figure it out for sure. #F1whisperer
