that is a terrible chart! :D

Rolex and RM with Hublot? VC with AP at top? :D

I can see this being wishful thinking 10-15 years ago, but it hasn't held true at all.

It is probably that old, I downloaded it some time ago.

But nothing wrong with having the trinity at the top, VC has a legacy that is unmatched.

There might be a generational thing going on. I see RM > VC. PP > Rolex > AP. 10 years ago the young ballers would have put Hublot above everything, but now they've learned. :D I think this is all represented in the market now.

The first graph and 'billboard' are somewhat culturally accurate but, meh, I don't know. If you want time on your wrist and you're doing something sporty, get something cheap enough that you won't flinch when it gets beat up and will look good with battle scars.

If you're going to something that requires a dress watch, get an understated but elegant dress watch - if you're are making people read the brand on the dial, you're doing it wrong.

For everything in between, get something cool and appropriate. Watches are like wine.

Most watch fun for the money in horology - pocket watches! Actual hand finishing for peanuts. Really cool super high end American for the price of a new Grand Seiko (including Waltham railroad watches for the Japanese National Railroad that led to Seiko becoming what it is). If you want to spend some decent money you can have something of true historical significance. I think General George Patton's West Point graduation gift was a Tiffany/Patek with minute repeater and split seconds chronograph - it sold, fairly recently, for about $150K.
