It's not just that. If Porsche isn't eligible in GT3 in WEC or LeMans, no one is going to run them in ELMS either. Even the IMSA auto invite would be impacted. The power that Le Mans has over everything is crazy. If you have the time listen to the link I posted from Midweek Motorsport. They get into a lot of these details.
I have skipped over most of the IMSA announcements but this one certainly caught my eye. Interesting times.
That was distant history. In recent history, Porsche has played the hokey-pokey, being in, and then out. They pulled out of ALMS on a moments notice, did the same in 2018 to the ACO, and now they've done it again. Nobody has a right to anything in racing. The ACO didn't make its rules in a vacuum. The reason for the 2 car mandate is to make sure that the WEC is supported, and teams don't just pick Le Mans. Toyota (for example) has spent a lot supporting the WEC, including when times were lean. Pay to play. My guess is Proton will get some support from Porsche for a second car, so that they have representation and can bring one of Penske's teams. If they don't, that's a sign that Porsche is pretty unserious.
I just saw that one of their entries will be for Ryan Hardwick. I am assuming that is the GTD entry and he isn't entering pro.
