I have not owned one before, but I'm up to 6 automatic watches (all pretty inexpensive so definately not a baller...LOL) so getting tired of resetting the time/date every day.

So are they good to have? Are they generally reliable? Thinking of a cheap 8 position winder off Amazon (kids looking for Christmas suggestions)

Are there any types of watches you wouldn't put in a winder? Two of my watches are Seikos from the 1960s, and my only Rolex from the early 90s....are they too old to be exercised in a winder every day?

    Thanks

    Good questions.

I too would like to hear from those that use a watch winder or those that quit using one.

I have 3 automatics , 2 of which I use regularly and it's a pita to reset, but not the end of the world.

Also aside from what you asked I'm curious if they take up too much shelf space , I wonder if that's an issue for even a 2 watch unit.
Another thing is I don't have an outlet in my closet. So would I get a battery unit for in there or have to leave it out in the bedroom?
    :)

The last time I asked watch professionals the answer I got was basically do you leave your car running so it's ready to roll the next time you use it

When I called Rolex they said that they don't recommend it they recommend just use it

I have an 8 watch winder in my safe. It is in my closet and I power it through the wall to my bedroom.

You have a nice collection....what are your thoughts on using it, and would you use it for any automatic watch (even vintage)?

Doesn't seem like a valid comparison.....BUT how many of us use battery tenders on cars when they sit awhile?

I have two watch winders(not expensive ones ) and they have become show cases instead of being turned on

After some research when I got the winders (should have done before ) I realized you need to spend big bucks to get one that spins different revolutions for different models etc... other than older watches where the oils would get thick etc it didn't seem like there (based on my research) was any benefit except for convenience... I have a few watches that are over 25 years old without being on winder and still work fine

Have had watch winders but end up in the cupboard and not used, part of the experience to wind, set and wear the watch.
Unless you have one with many complications that take a long time to set date, time etc, mabe not worth it. Maybe buy one and see if you use it or ends up in the cupboard?

I stopped using a winder 8 years ago. I had Wolf winders, and a few Amazon winders. Some watches they worked on most they did not do so great. Neat idea but not for me. I have a better case I used and keep them in my safe.
