This is on my to-do list for my EV conversion. I originally purchased a Kia EPS motor which looks to be slightly too large to fit under the dash. The Prius motor looks more promising but there are quite a few other things I need to finish before tackling this portion of the build.

In a nutshell, I will need to replace one of the center sections of the steering column with the EPS motor. Current draw did not seem to be significant so I'm not worried about powering this modification. The motors are cheap and they can run in "failsafe mode" with just power and ground hooked up. If you want to get fancy, there's also variable power steering which is governed by speed as reported on the can bus, IIRC. They make aftermarket controllers to make this easy as well (or at least adjustable with a knob).
