    Hi!
I’ve done big service with timing belt, all bearings in timing gears and oil pump chain+guides in 550. Bearings and chain was changed because of the rattle noise from its location.
After few km done rattle came back. After inspection I found out that shoe guide is damaged (silver one on the right).

I’m wondering if it’s my mistake or low quality of parts. Everyting was new OE parts.
Workshop manual doesn’t say anything about adjusting play on that chain.

    I’ll be appreciate for comments.

The car is 1998 550 Maranello.

There is no adjustment for the oil pump chain on 550. I would assume a low-quality part. Pre-lubricate a working surface of the new guides upon the installation.

How many km on the car?

When I was there on mine at around 100000 km the only visible wear I could see was on the "round" pad but I couldn't even feel it with my fingernail so I did not replace them. I still have a new set of the dark grey pads on the shelf.

It was mentioned on here that a certain amount of rattle was to be expected on these engines, but in your case it is tempting to think that the issue comes from elsewhere, causing excessive tension in the chain. Did you check if the oil pumps + shaft rotated freely?

    The car is 72000 km.
I did oil pump revision and it looked like new, and changed all the bearings on its drive and belt drives.
I’ve checked oil pressure with mechanical gauge and it looks like oil pressure is too high. I’m wondering if this could be cause of excessive tension on chain.

Readings of oil pressure reaching over 8 bars when reving the engine.

What engine oil do you use?
