Hey man, I'm just impressed that you are getting a 296. It must be a good car if you're on board.
I would guess the new car being offered was ordered by another customer who bailed on the car. That $45k was probably the prior purchaser's deposit, which the dealer is going to use towards your purchase. That makes the most sense on what is happening here. Chet
I hear nothing but amazing things about the 296. Have a friend who has had one for about a year and he raves about it as well. I don't thing I have seen one bad review about the 296. Not to mention the 296 Speciale looks like an absolute home run of a car.
Tells me that a lot of people got over their skis and ordered cars expecting the market would continue to climb and they could sell at a profit. Bubble burst. That’s what it tells me.
My guess is that they are able to offer the $45k. Because that was the deposit the person who ordered the car lost. Would be net zero discount to the dealer/Ferrari.
If I were you I’d forget the 296VS as part of your thought process. I think there will be zero problem getting an allocation as Ferrari is likely to build as much as the market can take given the huge premium they are charging for the car. Ferrari’s forecasts through to the end of the decade aren’t great and they’ve been taking a hit on their share price. So if you’re happy with the $45k price reduction in this market go for it - personally I wouldn’t.
Dealers promising future cars gives me Porsche vibes. Not in a good way. Hopefully they get you a VS as promised but I’m gonna hazard a guess they won’t
deal seems alright but it's not a guarentee that the 296 spec will be trading over list for awhile so worth considering that
Probably not wrong, but the question is also when that starts to turn around - Speciales and Pistas have been above list since they were 3-5 years old (VS market skyrocketed this summer, but even before, both were trading above $500k). Whereas Scuds and CS both spent a good long while below MSRP, like 15ish years, before the market came back to them, and now seemingly neither one can be had below $400k. Out of the gate, SF90XX doesn't seem to have this issue, though obviously, it's more limited than 296VS will be. Re:296VS slot - this seems like a relatively common tactic that dealers are using to move cancelled 296s that are sitting on the lot. Promising future special cars contingent on regular car purchases has been Ferrari's game for a lot longer than it has Porsches...
Not completely accurate. Pista was well below MSRP pre-covid. I sold mine in January 2021 and was lucky to get 40k below MSRP. It sat for months and there was a ton on the market. (And yes, I am still kicking myself for selling it when I see what the pricing has done)
Signed the papers! Moving forward with the deal, and got it in writing that the 296 Speciale allocation is guaranteed. They actually are wanting me to spec the Speciale ASAP so they can submit it. Very satisfied with the deal. This dealer has been great to work with. And before you ask, no I will not reveal the name of the dealer, yet at least haha. Maybe in a few weeks or months from now.
And to the people worried about the 296 Speciale value in a year from now, id recommend you take the $550-650K the car will cost after options and put it in real estate or T-bills that will return you 4-7% every year haha. Getting a 296 Speciale as an "investment" is a terrible way to look at things. You are buying it for what it is, Ferrari's limited/track focused car. Which if history repeats itself, will be an absolute home run of an experience. Will the car be worth more $$ than MSRP? The proof is in the pudding, Name a VS limited production Ferrari that is trading under MSRP from any year, go ahead I'll wait haha. This is a keeper car though, no plans on selling this thing hopefully ever and my kids can inherit the car. Same with my other cars.
what is interesting is that fact that a new buyer, no relationships was offered a new 296 GTB at a discount (is what it is) and then given a Speciale spot. What does that tell you about how exclusive the Speciale will be?
