Hello, depends if they do drain the cooler too besides draining the gearbox. A good draining will take #4 quarts. depends what year is yours but should be same. The Sept. 1997 owners manual say 1.18 Gallon or 4,5 liter. The 1996 WSM say 1 gallon or 4.5 litter. You check it yourself on a flat surface if can get under the car.
Hello folks, I know this is an old thread but I thought I would ask a question or two. I am getting ready to change the oil on my father's 97 550 and want to make sure I have everything in advance. I am traveling from a far distance and will not have my full home shop and tools and need to pack out what I need. 1. Should I buy the oil filter tool from Hill/Ricambi? 2. Oil filters-should I buy from Ricambi? 3. Should I change the drain plugs too? 4. Does anyone know the fastener size for the drain pan and oil tank? Are these standard hex bolts or special like hex bits? 5. Does the car need to be raised? I have race ramps that I can jack up each side, slide the ramps under, and lower (these are not the drive-on type ramps). I can gain about 3" of additional clearance this way. 6. Is there a consensus on how much I should fill before starting and checking? Threads say 10, but others say 12 and some say this is too much. Thanks again. I know these are basic questions. Brett
