Maybe a long shot - car is a 1982 LP5000s - anyone ever installed the cable that raises and lowers the windows with the hand crank? The driver door side cable broke and I am trying to figure out how to restring the pulleys. A diagram or explanation would be fantastic.

    Thanks to all.

  2. This image is all I've found at the moment, it could easily be a kit car. Still it might not be or show something similar that might work.

Hmm. Thanks for that. I have managed to find a disassembled Countach locally - will go see what I can this afternoon. One of the benefits of being located in Bologna. I will take photos and make a sketch - if I post it it may help someone else.

I did not want to pull the other door card and remove the vapour barrier as it works perfectly. 43 year old door parts are fragile.

Yesterday I was fortunate to have access to a disassembled door on with the window installed on another car undergoing restoration. I also had access to my friend Massimo, who, amongst other things, worked at the Lamborghini factory for many years as an electrician and built doors as well. I am fortunate to have access to such people. (As an aside, I have even secured the help of the retired team that built the ECUs in my Diablo in 1992 to rebuild my units - there is no task that is impossible in my neighbourhood).

In essence the lower edge of the Countach glass is bolted front and back to a horizontal bracket. The bracket also has bolts that hold small metal plates that pinch the 2mm diameter steel wire that raises or lowers the glass.

To get to it, the door card and vapour barrier need to be removed, as does the small pocket inside the door where the door opening handle is located. The pocket is held in place with rivets that need to be drilled out for pocket removal.

The wire runs in a sort of z pattern. The ends of the wire attach to the spindle of the door winder, held in place with screws. When the winder turns either way, one wire is pulled in, the other let out.

The hard part of installation according to Massimo is making sure the window is level as it goes up and down. This is done by loosening the pinch bolts that hold the wire and adjusting the height of the glass. Some fiddling is required to get it right.

Watch one, do one. I will try to sort out my car this evening and take some pictures. If anyone is tackling this job, let me know, I have more photos and sketches of the sample car.

  6. Wow, nice. That crappy photo I posted turned out to be real! Any more pics of the rest of the car? I remember when you found it, but not how long ago?
