from barchetta.cc 19.. - Lee had a gun holster installed into the transmission channel. The car was not maintained well, often parked in NYC streets, and mechanically neglected. Due to its condition Chinetti refused to buy it back later, referring to it as “El Gordo”. Lee sold the car in 1964
barchetta has it as 0489SA but only with a black and white picture 0481SA matches with the interior color ...
Picture (from your post) that I linked to is 100% 0481SA. I remember when it arrived at my friend’s garage, unrestored. I liked it better that way. They later restored it then sold it to the next owner in SF, CA. I was fortunate to see it there as the owner at the time was storing his cars next to a famous shop in Berkeley. When I visited about 15yrs ago, they also sent me next door to check out the private collection. For 0489SA, I was unaware of it also having a transmission tunnel holster until this thread. Interesting to find out.
Unfortunately, the seats of the Broad Arrow auctioned Coupe 1745GT should be redone, the bolsters need to be re-shaped; they are much too flat. It is a common mistake, or poor reference taken from non-original upholstery - the seat shape as realized on this car is a significant miss. The seats of the 250 Pininfarina Coupe and Cabriolet SII, as originally upholstered, had very rounded, full bolsters; the centers were set in deep - you sat into the recessed centers of the seat cushion and the upright. The pleats, on the other hand were sewn very flat, with little crown between the seams. After long use, the pleated area of the seat would bulge up. I am guessing the springs weakened (?), but something else may be going on. Here, photos of original seats, not restored, that hopefully better illustrate my remarks. Great pics. As we are now well down the footwell rabbit hole...I've not seen this type of elasticated document holder (passenger side) in a PF Coupe before either. Loving these little nuances. Image Unavailable, Please Login
