Has anyone tried the Hill Engineering slick shift gate for the Testarossa?

I love the gated manual but I occasionally have issues with quick and smooth shifting from 1st to 2nd and 3rd to 4th. I know Hill Engineering makes a gate that is supposed to make shifting much smoother and easier. Has anyone tried it, and if so, does it make a difference?

For me, the speed of shift has never been limited by the gate, but by the gearbox itself. My Testarossa most definitely isn't a sports car, its a tourer, and fast shifts across the gate have never been possible and if I were to try, which I did at the beginning, the results would not be good! First to second, on mine, is a no for 30 mins of driving and never above 3,000 revs on load. My 308 is entirely different and is a sports car. Anything goes with that and its the same gate. Testarossa's are amazing cars, but they need to be driven their way, not yours. Enjoy it for what it is, an absolute '80's icon.

Might want to check your TR set up.

Neither shift fast by modern standards.

My TR is fine, my 308 is fine. Neither are modern, my comments take that into account.

Jerrod, ask Hill Engineering if they offer a written "money back guarantee" if their gate does not make a difference. Then you will know the honest answer that you seek. ;) EDoug

The TR shifts as fast as the 308.

I decided to give it a try. I have to say, it made a massive improvement in the shift smoothness and quality going from 1st to 2nd and 3rd to 4th.

Looks like a standard shift gate replacement with angled slots.
Maybe try driving with gate removed?

That could generate some interesting sounds if one grabbed R for race by accident.

I found the shifting on my 91 became really good when I adjusted the linkage. I understand it can be a 2 person job, with one person shifting while the car is on a lift while the other person makes minute adjustments under the car.

Or, if you, like me, have no friends, do it the difficult way I do - drain the transmission oil, remove one engine mount, remove the transmission side plate and make adjustments visually while checking how easily it changes gear.

I am not sure how much the original gate is the actual problem when it’s not shifting easily.

I prefer always the 1st way. and just no friend is around I ask a student to help. they are happy to sit in such a car :)
but you also can do it alone. put in the 3rd gear. loosen the 2 screws 44 ( 10791921 ) and 48 ( 10791222 ) and turn the 28 ( 103321 ). but when you do this alone may be you will get crazy after some times doing not right. 1 inside the car to hold the gearshift lever would be very good. or you may fix this lever with 3 plastic wedges that it can not move anymore

when adjusted in the gearbox right then you not need such a special gate
