I think its more so the dealer than Ferrari. Happy for the guy that got the alllocation but I also feel bad for the existing owners that have bought 296 that were not able to get an allocation.
The OP legit and thanks for sharing First time buyer a limited edition - Ferrari and dealer should be concerned about many of us who bought every model to get VS, good for the OP but this is not a good look.
Jeez, I did not mean to stir up so many emotions from people. I thought the deal I was offered must have been pretty common, that's why I was reaching out to the community to make sure it was a good deal and I wasn't getting taken advantage of!
you didn't do anything wrong, you didn't know. pretty clear though you didn't have a typical experience or opportunity.
New to Ferrari (not yet an owner) but seems fair to assume that both Ferrari dealers and Ferrari corporate are rational actors. Both are just responding to supply and demand. To expect the same market dynamics today vs a few years ago when the secondary market is clearly signaling concerns about hybrids (right or wrong), seems to be the wrong approach. Though I completely understand the frustration from folks who ponied up early for a VS allocation. Customer loyalty matters less than shareholder satisfaction. The same dynamics that are starting to push me away from Porsche and into Ferrari.
Since edition and even overall model numbers aren't published, then I know when the Pista was being delivered that it seemed like there were a bunch out there. Even half serious jokes they made as many Pistas as 488 coupes. The demand and profit for the Speciale is certainly much higher, why wouldn't Ferrari just meet demand - 1?
I would have asked too! For the record my dealer has never offered a car. Heck they won't even give a test ride in the dealerships demo model. Asking to sit in a car is daunting with them...LOL
OK, another theory. I just looked at the age of 06viper, I will only let him share it if he wants. However, this goes along with what I saw at Casa Ferrari a couple years ago and how Ferrari has made a not subtle push into the younger demographic. It honestly isn't a bad strategy to get ahead of a "dying" market. Has anyone else noted recently at their dealers that the younger demographic tends to get a few more preference points in the system?
It tells me that the dealer wants to make money. Dealers have always traded moving stale inventory for entry level “special” cars.
Yeah this makes strategic sense depending upon the dealership. Probably super limited not so much (Icona etc)
34, It could be a good theory, except I never even went to the dealership in person. I did everything over the phone. I never once mentioned my age until the deal was done and had to send them a photo of my drivers license that has my birthday on there haha.
I think you will love the car. There are some irritations with the infotainment/haptics and other niggles. I have learned mostly how to do what I want with the haptics. The biggest irritation to me is the “walk away lock” and proximity (kinda) unlock. There are ways to adjust it, and I havre tried multiple times. But then I get inconsistent results. So, I’m back to it being activated. It is a bit silly. When I open the passenger door to put my briefcase in, it relocks the car by the time I get back to the drivers side. Not a big deal, but a little silly to have my car locked while in my garage. LOL Anyhow, neither of those is a hindrance to me driving it. I’m only 100 miles from being broke in. I am still surprised at how much I love this little car, idiosyncrasies and all!
