One can wonder how Renault managed to create their mighty V10 during the 90.. and failed miserably after with the hybrid era
It takes time. Fred hasnt been there that long and Max took 7 years to win a title. Title gap for RedBull was 7 years. Sure too long for Ferrari but UK base etc wont make a difference if a team management/execution and engineering do not yield a winning capable car as well. Its the car and all that goes into it and race management. A base in the UK wont make that better. They did it before without a UK base. Its the team/personnel/ good car and race management more than location. Mclaren UK base how long for a WCC lol?? Focus on personnel/management to yield a good car and then race management/strategy. I think Ferrari can do it if they decide to implement a culture of success/excellence for winning. Seems like all the commentary here see's a lack of that as a basis. None of this is quickly solved in the short attention span world. Yet people expect it will all just turn around next year/quickly lol. Lets just hope for Ferrari they have consistent performance near at the front and can build on that. Thats whats needed continuous performance to include IMPROVEMENT and consistent at that. Elkann and company have the resources thats not an issue nor is a base in the UK. Is the water and soil in the UK magic lol Maybe so!
Legendary drivers always delivers unreal and unbelievable performance. This is what some don’t want to recognize with Max ..
As William said though, a big reason for this titleless streak was due to engine disadvantage. 2016 the car was pretty damn good just let down by the engine. 17 and 18 capable of wins despite the engine, likely would've competed for the title had the engine been on par. 2019-2020 again decent car engine so so, 2020 especially was a good year. 21 it finally happened...engine still not as good as the Merc was but good enough to do the job. Laws of deminishing returns for Merc certainly applied. Since 2022 the engines are all very close to each other with the exception of....renault. Who are where? I agree with you entirely that a UK base is not needed, exactly for the reason you state...
Problem is quite simple with Ferrari: Always the five years excuse. Mattiaci 5 years ( fired) Arrivabene 5 years ( fired ) Binotto 5 years ( fired ) Vasseur 5 years ( fired ?) At this rate we will soon need a century to win again !
At the time, Renault didn't have any hybrid production vehicles so they new very little about hybridization let alone they didn't have a split-turbo for the F1 2014 platform....until 2017 when they changed to a split turbo configuration like the Mercedes powerplant. Still, their F1 cars were underpowered and fatigued with issues(DNF's). Now, their F1 production facility in Viry-Chatillon is shut down.
The 2014 hybrid formula came more than 20 years after Renault's 90s success. Probably there was a different technical team at Viry-Chatillon, working on a different technology ?
Mattiaci was named as TP during 2014 to replace Stefano Domenicali; he lasted less than a year ( not 5). Arrivabene was TP from 2015 until 2018: he lasted 3 years (not 5). Binotto was TP from 2019 until 2022: he lasted 3 years (not 5). Vasseur is TP since 2023; he has already done 3 years. Is he already at the end of his "shelf life" at the Scuderia ? It took about 6 or 7 years of effort for Jean Todt to rebuilt the team and bring Ferrari to the front. He lasted 14 years. It's obvious that 3 years is far too short for a TP to turn Ferrari around, and obtain regular success. I don't know if Fred Vasseur is the man who can do it, but he was given an impossible task, IMO. Ultimately, the responsability falls on Elkann and Vigna, but they don't seem to care ...
Crikey are you seriously saying McLaren are not a credible F! team, granted they hit the doldrums with ZB in charge. Could be the water, but the area of excellence is the Uk, thats why most of the teams are based in the UK.
The power unit was a estimated 50hp below the merc but wasnt so reliable, even so Ricciardo still beat him in the WDC in 16 & 17, and was 79 points behind in 2018. In that year DR had 8 retirements and 3 for MV. Hardly convincing. !
Its those damn UK based Williams and Mc Laren team that thwarted earlier World Championship titles You say its obvoius, but is it? Rebuild the team, from what? Currently Ferrari have all the facilities and much much more than most other teams, they just dont put it all together, hire and fire the wrong people!
On top of facilities and finance, at Ferrari they also have years of experience. With 75 years on uninterrupted presence in F1, they should dominate, but for decades, they fall short of expectation. Even Lauda when he first went to Maranello and visited the Gestione Sportive, quipped that with all the advantages they had, he couldn't understand "why they couldn't win all the races". But he soon found out ...
Right. Even comments here say they need a UK presence but they are still the team with the strongest win record in F1 without that. The issue is execution, not location.
