XKR headliner decided to fall

    Probably due to the high humidity as I parked it at PHX Sky Harbor this week during a hard rain. It drooped so bad that I easily removed it from the rear to the front with ease, it's just hanging there now. My pea-brain says I can use a spray adhesive and put it back in place, slowly from the front to the back. Yes? No?

    probably better to remove the trim pieces that form the edges that hold it in place as you might get glue all over them while trying to push the edges back under the trim.
    That the way the pro did mine when I had to re install it.

    When the headliner failed on my XJR, it was due to deterioration of the foam backing. It simply turned to dust. The solution was to completely remove it and have a professional upholstery guy install new foam to the backing and re-glue the fabric then reinstall. If you just use spray adhesive it will just come loose again.

    You would need to scrape it, the headliner, and get your painted inside metal roof relatively clean too. It's messy but if you plan with some drop cloths not too tough. You'll need a shop vac close by! You could also add some thin insulation barrier, as I did having a black car, and since you live in AZ might be a good idea. It's not a difficult job but there are some things you need to pay careful attention too.

    The factory (for Ferrari) used thickish backing, like 1/4" for 360's, and you might not be able to source the same so that made re-using the original piece tough because of the gaps it can create at the edges when you re-install.

    For my failed headliner I switched from leather to alcantera (which I recommend) but all the surrounding interior pieces on A and B pillars and roofline border parts were placed using the thicker factory materials so if you are not careful and don't plan you could end up with gaps up there that you do not want. How to mitigate the edges is up to you but if you plan on re-using the original piece you will need to be very specific because they cut the parts with no excess.

    I used some nice 3M spray adhesive to affix the headliner material to the new insulation I added on the floor of my garage and then since the insulation was an adhesive backed product I stuck it to the clean interior roof of my car. In hindsight I would have installed this a bit oversized and waited to trim this roof part until after I stuck it up there as I had some gaps that I had to be creative with. Trying to start with the same size as the leather part that had fallen down was more difficult.
