After a long wait I finally took delivery of my 296 GTB. This was a bit of a dilemma as I've been watching used car prices and can see how owning this car from new is going to mean a six figure depreciation loss, but it is what it is.

I went with Nero Daytona and a red and black interior; similar spec to my F8, but more Alcantara on the interior. For the carbon fiber, I went matte on the interior, and no exterior carbon: I plan on going aftermarket for that (still trying to decide on a supplier, probably Ricambi).

Thrilled with how it turned out, and after putting 1000 miles on it my first weekend of ownership, I can definitely see what the reviews are talking about: what a machine. It truly is one of the best cars on sale today.

Congrats - nero Daytona is difficult to keep clean, but when it is, it's really nice and classy.

I had it dropped off for full PPF, window tint, and ceramic coating before I ever drove it: that should help keep it clean…

First weekend . I picked it up on Friday and went for a nice long drive along the lakeshore of Lake Michigan. Fall has just starts so the leaves are changing color and it was beautiful.
I’ll never understand all those Ferraris that are 2+ years old and have a couple of hundred miles on them: why buy a car if you can’t drive it?

They may be cars bought on finance where they miscalculated the payout . They thought they could drive it for virtually nothing in terms of cost to them, panicked when the market was flooded with cars and thought that low miles means more $$$. If you look at the market that is not the case . Personally I would rather buy a car with miles and warranty still on it that is in good condition . Engines and gear boxes work much better when they are used rather than sit somewhere and do nothing

There are also people having many cars, so that each car gets less use. Customers playing the game to get really rare cars from Ferrari (not just the common VS) need to buy a lot of cars... These people are rarer though, since they need to be able to spend tons of money.

That has always been my thinking… That perhaps the number of people who can afford to buy a Ferrari is much, much, much larger than the number of people who can afford the depreciation of putting miles in one.

I am not wealthy but for me the whole point of buying a car is to be able to enjoy it; I can’t imagine spending money to register and insure a Ferrari just to store it for a few years and pass it on to the next guy. But to each their own.

Awesome! Love a black car and the red is a very nice touch. Super spec, my man! Enjoy it in good health. Love seeing a Lake Michigan photo, btw.

Congrats! Since you've lived with the f8 for a while, could you give your take on the performance gap between the two? I thought 296 was quite a bit faster, but I've never lived with a f8.

What a gorgeous spec you have excellent taste! You could probably also help everyone else less fashionably inclined too

My F8 went 220 miles an hour flat-out across a loooong road in Montana: I am not sure the 296 can match that top speed (maybe it can? My reasoning for why I am not sure it will, is I do not believe the e motor is contributing any meaningful power at top speed), and the stability the car had at 220 was absolutely unreal.
At more sane speeds though, the biggest thing you notice with the 296 is how much more low-end torque there is thanks to the hybrid setup; even at 2000RPM in 5th gear the car can pull away cleanly. It feels like it has an engine that is at least double the size. Another nice feature is you get a really nice shove on full throttle gear changes in race mode. The F8 gearbox is very fast, but the 296 takes it up another notch.
Besides being noticeably faster, the 296 is a lot louder and sounds a lot better than the F8. Honestly the sound the F8 made was the biggest let down of that car: my GF's 30 thousand dollar Camaro SS sounded VASTLY better, as did more or less any other car ever made before or since with a V8 engine
