So I'm just curious what everyones opinions are in this car.

Also who built the body? Was it done "properly"

That body is sad. All wrong. Hopefully whoever purchases it has it taken back to pininfarina spec...

 

I only hope the original body hasn't been butchered yet and someone with enough balls, heart & financial wherewithal will acquire both and restore the poor car back to her original* configuration.
I know it's a tall order, but one can hope.

*Heck, there might be someone willing to buy the sad replica body to help off-set the cost of the restoration.

 

It has the wrong engine...

 

If it can qualify for vintage rallies it would be a relatively affordable way to run a 1952 roadster…

 

Potentially, first you buy it, then it gets refused. Then what?

I would not get involved with this car, unless you foremost like it. The rest, well.....it is anybody's guess.

 

I imagine that’s how every fake art, fashion garment, Rolex, etc buyer/owner justifies their acquisition to themselves, i.e. “If I can just fool others to believe it’s real …”, …

… until they get laughed at and ridiculed in public for being a poser/wannabe.

 

Does this ever happen? Probably not. Most owners at that level dont try to pretend it's the real thing. And people at those events arent childish enough to laugh at a guy who is having fun with a cool car.

There was a fake tdf at pebble just a few weeks ago. No one was laughing at him.
All major events have these fakes/repro/continuation.

I've noticed that a handful of these recreations and rebodies like the P4s are owned by super rich guys who have the original too. But don't want to track a $15,000,000 car, they'd rather rebody a 330 for $500-600k and beat on that.

I bid on one of those rebodied 288-looking 328GTBs on BaT a few weeks ago - I'd never say it was a real GTO but damn for around $100k if you can have a GTB that looks like a GTO and beat the snot of it and not worry about scratches or kids putting their shoes on the seats, sounds like it could be fun.

 

Do the guys with fakes get ridiculed face to face? Probably not; although I suspect there’s couched comments even face to face. But these guys with their rebodies and/or fakey-doo cars absolutely get talked about and laughed at while attending events. Some of these owners outright lie and pretend their cars are legit in an audience of people who know better. Others will make up ridiculous stories in effort to substantiate their car. Very very few will just come out with “it’s a fake” though. They’re embarrassed to own fakes, as they should be.

 

Hypothetical situation; you really like the look and sound of this car; you can’t afford a real one; should you pass on it because it’s not a real one, thus denying yourself that enjoyment? Should others opinions define your happiness? Obviously, lying about the provenance is pointless, but can it just be enjoyed for what it offers? Trying here to have an objective discussion…..all opinions welcomed.
nb; not personally in the market, but interested in thoughtful discussion (if possible)

impressed by my " wow, amazing you bring this car out at Mugello, for a regional race". Indeed quite a smile.
