FERRARI 288 GTO

A couple of shots of 57223 after being detailed by https://www.supercardetailing.com Rob has looked after my whole collection now for 2 decades and really is superb.

 

Superb with the megafono!

 

They look superb, originally fitted to 57223, the factory original exhaust is still sitting in a Ferrari box never used ..

 

Never used, really...where are you based UK, USA? In France they do a Technical inspection, are you using a compliance document for the exhaust?

 

I’m in the Uk, the original exhaust is in a Ferrari grate dated 1985.. The Ferrari Classiche was approved on the Megaphone Ansa pipes, as the delivery photos show the car leaving the factory with them

 

direct from factory... Nice, I always imagine they comes all standard.
How many 288 are based in UK?

 

Nice cars, very few, average restored cars a few more, questionable cars a lot more

 

Questionable origin, these old mileage counters are easy to tamper with. Increasingly, the kilometers are very low.
All invoices are essential during a sale.

 

So true..I’ve looked at so many 288’s, and almost all have been driven in reverse.. you can always tell a genuine car.. but trying to explain that to the 7th owner is always hard as they thought they bought a correct car..,
The interior never lies, the accelerator petal never lies, I honestly think it is a minefield for new buyers.. I always say buy the best you can and if it is out of your price bracket go for maybe the best F40..

 

You and Karimsaid could run a seminar about the 288 and the F50 with all the mine fields that await the unwary.
All that money chasing mediocrity in reality for collectors of 'The Set' ...

 

It's interesting : the factory asked me to send them back to them the original exhaust when they restored my car and they claimed then that no GTO left the factory with megafono.

Gigi, the then head of Classiche départ, even told me with his nice Italian accent :"Jacques, we need to remove that piece of sh..."

Anyway, I also put the megafono back on the car as soon as I could as it sounds much much better !

 

In the early years of Classiche, dealers used to install a third party’s original exhaust on a client’s car (which had a sports exhaust) a day before the Classiche inspection. Next day the swap is made. A few months later you get your red book (and neither your car has an original one neither do you possess one).

Even worse, for cars with a complicated systems and rare-to-find like the F50, the dealer instead of finding an original from a client and doing 4 remove/replace procedures for few pictures in the red book, they will use stock pictures of F50s with original exhaust instead of your car in the red book…

 

Always happy to correct myself, you are correct the exhaust was presented on the car for the Classiche certification. I went though a couple of old emails and they did state that the original factory exhaust must be present.

I was agree with this information, but MSN said he has a picture when the car going out the factory.

I heard the car drives little more better, and little more faster with megaphones.

 

Looks dirty... Killer picture to me.
Morris was the owner or a profesional shop? (You can used my French accent like P Sellers).
I think they was blu originally, the replace timing is every 12 months and 5000km or 3250 miles.
Oil is 10 W 50 SAE by Agip sin. 2000
You know that perfectly, I like to recall for others.

It was covered in dust when I saw her, and was sent to Ferrari Beverly Hills , they again put a orange oil filter on the car.. they serviced the car, did everything that was needed, and Classiched the car.. there is not much more I can add really. There s a lot of stories, adventures about Fcars, I love that. Sunday, I read about a first owner who bought the 288 GTO new, the man was based in Michigan USA. He never recieved it, the car was stocked in Roma Italy with EE plates.
1 month later the car was sold to japon. At this time, 1984/85 ferrari was very strong against speculators.

 

For absolute Clarity, Morris bought the car new, drove it out the factory and onto a Jumbo Jet . He never registered the car in the US, it was imported as show and display with taxes paid.. I have the flight documents for 57223 landing in LA. Morris kept the car until 2010, this date was important , as he had kept the car 25 years and exchanged her for a 599 GTO.. Ferrari Beverly Hills was the seller of 57233 from Morris to myself and the dealer that supplied the new 599 GTO to Morris.
57223 was shipped to the Uk in 2010, 57233 has never been registered in the UK either. It sits in my garage unregistered.

 

If you look back on this thread, you will see pictures of 57233 being driven out of the factory and the pictures of 57223 on a flight back to LA., I have the flight documents and customs papers for this in my file .Morris was based in Los Angles

288’s are red hot at the moment, I’m sure it will settle at some point.. I am not sure this example was world class.. just take a look at the interior.,But that is dealers for you.
