I'm waiting for a fuel pump before I can drive my car. And since it's the weekend and I usually work on my car I'm going a bit nuts sitting around.

Anyway, the car is running great no issues. But after restoring the plenum and supported hardware I thought it might be a good idea to clean the WUR filters.

    My questions are:

    1. Since the car is running fine should I just leave it alone and go find something else to do with my fidgety self?

    2. If I should clean it, do I need to buy any kind of gasket for it or anything that might need replacing? I have copper washers.

    Thanks

Yeah, I agree. These are old cars -- things can break when fiddled with, and new problems can be created. Whenever I have to work on an actual problem on my 328, I am extremely cautious about disturbing something else. For sure I avoid unnecessary work -- it just invites trouble.

I haven't encountered it on my 328 yet, but a lot of older European cars develop brittle plastics on everything from fuel system components to electrical connectors. Those items might function indefinitely if left alone, but disturb them and you trigger self-destruction, which could add weeks of downtime to repair/replace.
