Here's a question I can't seem to find the answer to:

Can I polish the wheel barrels on an HGTE wheel or is there some kind of clear finish on them??

Any information would be greatly appreciated!

George- Pretty much all of them have a clear coat to protect the finish. So, polish them and have someone clear coat them for you.

Polishing at a normal level and clear coat works fine like Terry said

Polishing like a mirror with clear coat on top is difficult, the clear coat will not stick very good on a mirror polished surface.

Thank you, they look like they have a clear finish on them which I won't touch. I know I could get them really bright if they were not coated.

How do they get the clear coat to stick to the ball polished wheels, that's almost mirror like ?

Ball polished actually has thousands of little depressions caused by the balls. Clear coat sticks pretty well to those.

Most (i would say all) of shiny surfaces on any factory rims are not polished, they are diamond cutted on a lathing machine.
So they have a rill from the feed, very fine, but there is a rill.

Polishing eliminates more and more the top of these rills, the end is a surface without rills, looks like a mirror.
In the tuning scene these mirror polished surfaces do not have any protection.

I'm not sure if the ball polished variant of the monolitic 599 rim is clear coated, is it ?
