The photo shows the intake manifold inlet of a 308 (carbureted version). There seems to be some reddish, crystal-like substance attached. Do you know what this might be?

Have you seen my recent post "Unusual deposits on my inlet manifold". Sounds similar. I have stripped, cleaned, resurfaced, smooth, and renistalled my manifolds and so far so good. Just fighting the oil leaks on my cam shaft seals with my newly delivered bucket of Loctite 518 and I should be sorted.

I'm not 100% sure, but it looks as though your intake manifold may be contaminated with a 1963 Ferrari 250 LM. :D

    Thank you for your answer.
However, the deposits are at the intake manifold entrance, away from the coolant path, and even if they were coolant, how would they get against the airflow to the carburetor?

Apologies Hideyuki, that was my attempt at humor. It appears you attached the wrong photo to your original post. The image appears to be a close-up of a 250 LM front fender, not a 308 intake manifold.

I thought the original post was supposed to be humorous! Can't think that the OP didn't realize it was wrong pic after the first couple of replies so I thought it was SUPPOSED to be funny. Though I wasn't sure how...so I figured I just didn't "get it."
