Had to share this with you gents as we’re pretty excited about it. I finally broke 300hp with one of our road engines and boy does it make a noise at 7500rpm. What Dino! (I kid haha)

stroked 3.3L Merak engine with 48IDA carburetors and all manner of other internal goodies

What a great accomplishment! Is it going back in a Merak? And forgive my ignorance, but what is the standard Merak displacement, HP, and redline? Impressive you are getting 7500 RPM when it was stroked, not bored!

Note, John’s team only agreed set up the dyno for me if I would bring them three of these engines to test. Such was the work to set up the dyno. That said, John and his team are fabulous people.

That one on the dyno is actually going into the Ligier JS2 that raced at Lemans in ‘73 as a spare engine. The owner wanted to preserve the original, can’t blame him. I have another one identical to it in a late Merak already but it hasn’t been on the dyno as this one has.

Stock is 3L with 6500rpm redline, but peak power on a stock motor is all done at 5800rpm and they made 200hp in SS form at best. I've learned stock 44DCNF carburetors with 36mm chokes on these just stop flowing air at 6200rpm, hence the 48IDA. Can't use 38mm on this carb, the top diameter of a 44 is just too small and the engine doesn't respond. I tested 3 engines that day, all were about identical builds sans the carbs, the 44DCNF made 274hp at 6200rpm. It continued to make good power through 7000rpm but it just hit a wall, wasn't flowing any more air with those carbs.
