So my mechanic quoted $30k for labor and parts for a full service. Im assuming this means all belts, fluids, etc. I’m in the Reno, NV area.

I have been shop foreman in some big Ferrari dealers. Rule one, always always diagnose sounds before taking a car apart. It is typically a very expensive mistake not to.

You can ship your car to the Bay Area and get the engine out service done for less than half of that quote.

In the entire Reno/Sparks/Carson City area there is one guy qualified to do a major on a 355?

Sorry I refuse to believe that.

In any event it is just not a big deal to take it to Ben Salerno in Rocklin.

Mitch (Yelcab) is in Bay Area. He’s your best bet if Salerno won’t take you in.

No other good choices in Sacramento area.
You are a member of the Ferrari club right? This is why you join. Ask the members you have gotten to know.
There are Ferrari mechanics in Reno area I just do not recall names.

The guy you have should be black listed.

Yes I am a member of the Ferrari club. I did find another guy in sacramento but he is 2 months out. Noted on my mechanic, although I've used them for other basic service on my exotics, including body work, and I've been mostly pleased.

Has anyone (including your mechanic) tried to remove all of the accessory belts and run the engine to see if the noise is there? Note: do not run the engine for very long as the water pump will not be moving coolant.
