there are not enough 365bb vids and stories out there, and this is inspiring. right on, onno - for taking the time to document the experience for us. i've actually thought a lot about replacing the factory 'three flutes' with the cooler, fat hot-rod style ansa sports. the original looks anemic and puny to me, and the ansa i think is a permissible, period-correct upgrade. what would be sweet is ansa brand, stainless steel twin pipes. isn't there enough demand for that to be in production? of course, gotta have them in black, silver tips, red/white stickers.
Is it just me, or do Boxers have a more subdued and less labored sound than some V12s out there? It's probably because they just don't need to be labored as there is plenty of power on tap.
Glad you enjoyed it Jeff! It's been an experience alright... But the last two weeks have made the last 3 1/2 years and $35k of expense worthwhile. Thanks! Hope yours is doing great! Subdued is the last word I would use to describe the 365 Boxer sound. It sounds manic in the cabin. But it is hard to capture on video, it sounds more creamy on the video. What certainly is true, is that the engine just loves to rev and it just keeps on pulling above 7,000rpm. It also just sounds better and better. It requires serious restraint to stop at the redline (which according to the manual is actually at 7k, not the 7.7k on the tach)! Onno
Remind me the next time we speak to send you a new pair of speaker for your PC. The sound of a Boxer is just intoxicating....and there's nothing, nothing like hearing those Webers sing. Let me know if/when you're ever back East...and I'll take you for a spin in my 365bb!
Bittersweet experience revisiting this thread. Sold the BB 13 years ago, for WAAAAAAAAAY too little, still stings. But the memories are great and it was actually fun -all in all - to read this again and refresh them.
