Hi, I’ve had my 296 for a few weeks now and I am very impressed by the car, and especially how suitable it is for daily use. I’m not usually one for modding a car, but there is one small design element that really annoys my eye, and that is the change in design in 296 which adopts a dip in the rear / engine section, instead of a continuous flow (window panel) from the roof to the rear of the car… like Ferrari have used on the 360, and all the way through to the F8. In fact, I think the F8 has possibly the best rear / engine design, with the use of the slats in the glass, similar to an F40. I know the designers and engineers of the car likely have 101 reasons as to why this works both aesthetically and technically (airflow, down force, etc), but I would love to add a very very light perspex cover to remove the ‘dip’… without messing with the airflow and downforce… maybe even a carbon panel. 01 - Has anyone ever seen a ‘kit’ for the rear ‘dip’? (unsure of the correct terminology to describe the ‘dip’) 02 - I’d love to explore getting a lightweight perspex panel designed to ‘fix’ in place. The production of the panel would be very straight forward due to the current technologies, but completely unsure of how I would go about getting measurements of this section of the car, in order to give to a manufacture. Very keen to explore this, even as a fun project. Any advice or guideance would be appreciated… and I will update the thread if I manage to get one developed. This goes to show how opinions differ so widely on design and on what turns a person on. The flying buttresses featured on the 296 are one of my favorite design elements! They remind me of so many of my favorites from the 70s and 80s. Literally, they were the first thing I noticed and loved about the 296. Good luck with your project. Do know, though, that many will love your car exactly as it currently appears.
If you decide to have something fabricated, there are several shops that make CF racing parts and do an excellent job. Verus Engineering will do custom parts and I would reach out to them. I like the 296 as designed, but your Chat GPT rendering is really cool!
+1 I love the wing look and buttresses. I think that part of it is to create some negative airspace for engine bay ventilation and downforce. If it's any consolation to OP, the GTS has smoother, more rounded buttresses to accommodate the folding roof mechanisms, but has a super cool targa wing look when open.
