Oil Leaks in V12s

I was very involved on Rennlist back then a with some of the guys that went to this meeting in Atlanta. It is true, Porsche listened and helped out.

 

Frankly, the whole issue is way overblown.

I have a 550 Maranello, a F12, a 812SF and an 812GTS.

Maranello regularly blew coolant hoses until I replaced them with non-factory reinforced kit, runs like a charm, purrs like a kitten, that’s now a what - a 30 year old V12?

Cost me some peanuts money, I regularly spend more on wine over a weekend than on fixing that.

F12 over ten years of ownership required one battery replacement, now will need to replace again next spring, but that’s again, absolutely trivial expense.

812 - no issues at all, zero, nilch, perfect ownership experience.

Comes time to reseal the gaskets - well, so what?

Find a good independent mechanic, pay him well, enjoy the car for another 10 years.

It is a f@ing racing engine, hell on earth, you’d need to rebuild it every 40 running hours if it was built by Porsche GT division…

That is a 100k+ miles 812SF driven hard and fast, show me a modern GT3RS which has a same mileage without a couple of engine replacements:

 

And let’s not forget that the Porsche factory warranty is only two years while Ferrari gives you three (in Europe). Makes you wonder who has more confidence in their product…

 

Ferrari gives 7 years maintenance as well.

 

It makes no sense to compare Ferrari to Porsche brand. One makes top exotics in the world. One is a mass produced car manufacture which competes with BMW, Mercedes, Lexus.
BTW Lexus makes more reliable cars than Porsche all day long.

 

Porsche is in Europe what the Corvette is in the states. I'm buying one to have as a winter beater.
