Hi all - I’m a recent 296 owner having purchased the car last month (2024 MY with 150 miles) from a dealer on the east coast who delivered down to me. On the drive home I noticed dashboard lines on the passenger side that weren’t obvious in the pre-sale pics or video walkthroughs. A Google and search of this forum (one thread on a 458) suggested these are lines created by the airbag underneath. Both dealer and Ferrari say this is completely normal. What’s the view / experience from other 296 owners? I’ve subsequently been looking at pictures of other cars, been to my local dealer to look at 296 inventory + asked my Ferrari-experienced detailer for their experience. Don’t want to overreact but I’ve never had this on any other car - exotic or otherwise. This is my first Ferrari.

Thanks in advance for any input here.

Indeed it is related to the airbag. How it shows up in pics depends on the light and angle of the picture to a degree but I can see faint lines in the same places on many 296s I’ve subsequently looked at. Some I can’t see it on (maybe when they’re brand new). I guess the issue for me is one of prominence. Car is a year old and with 300 miles and the outline is fairly obvious. IMO doesn’t look great.

There are varying degrees of leather distortion on many 296 dash boards. The root cause is that each Ferrari uses individual hides that are then adhered by hand to the backing . This delivers a variety of results , some not so good.

by all means complain however do you want a replacement that may not match the colour of the rest of the interior and may have issues around the fit as the work is done outside the factory ?

Whilst not ideal there is probably no good choices here

I haven't noticed this on mine but have on other cars. I would say this is, unfortunately, normal. My lambo actually has stiching around the airbag which makes a lot more sense.

Thanks for the replies, chaps. Sounds like it’s somewhat common. If anyone has pics of their car in this area, I’d appreciate seeing for comparison’s sake. Also - if anyone has been able to treat or improve this, I’d be grateful to hear.

Indeed. My Lambo had a neat box out area for the airbag. I think McLaren also does this.
