430 from Japan

Hello, I was wondering if there is a downside to buying a F430 from Japan. The car is already imported, it's at a dealer and there isn't any service history. Would it be different than buying a North American F430 without service history. Thanks for any advice.

Paint and Interior are OK not perfect, from what I can see it will need brake rotors and the valve covers are peeling paint. Not sure what else it would need, probably ball joints.

 

Probably is the operative word here. If it's "probably" ball joints, it's "probably" a lot of other things. If you don't know what you're looking at, you should get a PPI done from a reputable facility. But even then, they'll find 90% to 95% of anything that's obviously bad.

If at a good price then it’s worth doing some work to it. To make it your own.

 

There can be some nuances in registering a ROW car in certain states (assuming you’re in the USA). I live in a pretty conservative state but we weirdly have pretty strict safety and emissions laws. I’ve been able to navigate this, but it’s been a bit of a headache at times (I prefer not to do the Montana LLC route).

I have a B vin vehicle and came close to buying another B vin vehicle that was delivered new to the gulf. With my limited knowledge, I think you’d probably be okay with a Japanese market car, but I’d do some due diligence first. Also buy it right so if you have to sell it, you can accommodate the lower value it will have when you sell it.

 

Thanks very much for all the advice, if I do go forward I would definitely get a PPI, I think most dealers put a premium just because it's a Ferrari.
