575 split wheels

Are they 2 or 3 piece? I read 3 somewhere but just want to make sure.

The 575 BBS 19” Modulars are 2 piece. The face is bolted to the barrel with Titanium triple square Torx type bolts.

The 550 Barchetta Speedline Wheels are 18”-3 piece wheels with an Inner Barrel (7” on fronts and rears) a 1/4” rubber seal sandwiched in between the outer Lip (1.25” front to make an 8.5” wheel) or (3.25” rear to make a 10.5” wheel) and finally a steel ring on the inner barrel as a base for the nuts of the fasteners that go completely through the entire assembly.

yes that's correct

 

As noted the 575 19in modular wheels are a 2 piece using a cast center and cast barrel made under contract by BBS. The front barrel came in two versions, the original (188475) and the revision (188475/210660) which increased in the inner diameter to permit clearance for CCBs.

The barrels tend to be rather soft, particularly for the revision wheels. Extreme caution warranted on imperfect roads as a result. Likewise be very carful when replacing the outer bolts as they can easily snap/break in the hole/warp the hole and then you have a very expensive garage ornament.

The raw wheel weights are as follows:

Front: 29.8 lb
Rear: 32.2 lb

My car has spacers on all four corners with long stainless bolts. It’s amazing how heavy each 30 mm spacer is! They really do make the car look great, but I’m thinking about taking the spacers and bolts off and switching to my brand-new set of aftermarket titanium bolts instead, since some of my current ones have started to rust.

I’m not racing this car, but the idea of dropping a few kilos of rotational weight and going back to factory spec is pretty tempting right now.

Note the big advantage of the two-piece wheels is that the barrel is one piece and airtight with no seal keeping the air in. The three-piece wheels do need a good seal to keep the air in.

 

30mm spacers, that's a lot. Only rear or in front too? Do you have any photos of the car with the spacers on?

 

20mm in the front and 30mm in the back. Wheels sits right with them on

It _looks_ very good. Compared to stock where at least the rears are so tucked in there, it almost looks weird.

Don't know if handling is compromised by the 40mm wider track in front? I had Porsche 928's before and they were very sensitive to these kinds of changes.

 

Nice car! Yeah i believe the car should feel much better with the front pair gone atleast.

 

I am using 25 mm (HE Type 2) in the back and none in the front and it looks fine and handles well. Not much difference between 25 and 30 mm (~1/5"). They are rougher on wheel bearings and one of mine had to be changed.
