To be fair, I find almost every review video to be boring. Same fast cuts, moving around the car/cut/move some more/cut. Driver from passenger view/out front/behind fast cuts fast cuts etc. Commentary is always somewhat predictable.

I have thought the same about every video I have watched of new cars. The editing is terrible IMO. Predictable and/or frantic. Is not confined to the 296VS.

The fact that these reviewers are still
Showing how the mannetino works all these years later is laughable and lazy.

It’s probably the performance of the reviewer more than the car. The more entertaining ones are yet to come… I hope.

It would seems this is perhaps not quite as raw as what has come before but perhaps if I were being controversial this is not great surprise if one looks at the general trend. Also I think its unfair to compare this to the NA cars, 360 CS, 430 scud and 458 Speciale, those cars will always be iconic because the engines.

Have you driven a 458 Speciale? I have extensively on road and track and it only takes one video to see this 296 is not nearly as emotive as that car. It is faster yes, does speed create emotion, not really in my opinion.

I disagree. The engine in this car is already iconic and many journos already agree this 296 Speciale is possibly one of best ever Ferrari designs.

So you have driven the 296 Speciale and decided that is not emotive? Because that is not what the reviewers have said. Regarding opinions, we all have one...
Ferrari though purports that driving emotions are created by longitudinal forces (acceleration-deceleration), lateral forces (cornering), engine and gearbox responses and interaction, fidelity and speed of controls and finally sound.

With due respect it appears you have merely quoted the press pack in the above. No matter how you try slice and dice it the 296 Speciale is an inferior sounding car to the 458 Speciale, I am sure most people would agree with that.

Much of the emotion in a car revolves around its sound and far less its figures but I get it, figures impress you over feel, we all like different things which is great but when one sees a seasoned journalist like Henry saying that a car is not as raw as what came before...

    THIS!

I know sound is an important aspect, but how much and what?

The big radial engine fighters of the past have an unmistakable sound and character. They were supplanted by the newfangled V-12 Merlins and RR. Talk about a huge leap in performance, simplicity in some respects and more complications in others - lot’s of cooling issues to work out. Those are very amazing planes. They will shake, rattle and roll you both inside and outside the cockpit. Fantastic flying in the hands of an expert, but will kill you in a moment. Thrilling, to say the least.

Today, we have F22, F35 and Stealth. Do you believe for a moment that they are less glorious to fly? Some would say that a jet engine has no “soul” but that the reciprocal engines do. I get it. But I don’t think it is accurate.

My 2 cents to add to the convo. :)

I have these two beside one another at home. The 410 Exige is far more raw and loud than the other. But the other has far better figures. But because Henry says the Speciale is less raw than the one before does that make it less desirable than the other is the question. All comes down to personal taste. Once the 296 Speciale has been out for over a decade like the 458 I guess only then we will have our answer.

I will freely admit that the 458 Speciale sounds better and louder, at least from the outside, as it inevitable would due to being N/A and adhering to a different set of regulations. I would even agree that it probably sounds better inside too, even though with the hot tubes of the 296 the difference could be smaller. At any rate, sound is just one component of emotional response. Some people place greater emphasis on it than others. The problem lies in the conviction of some people that sound is what a great car and a great driving experience is all about. As if the actual driving does not matter... I do not think there is any doubt that the 296 Speciale is a superior driving machine than its namesake from the 2010's, as it should given the advent of technology.

You mean the “296 ++”… saw at least 2 review describe it as such with a suggestion that it underwhelms for a Speciale
