Hello from Ireland I recently purchased a “barn find” F430 F1 Couple RHD that was sold as seen non runner with parts missing I don’t know anything about the history of the car but mileage (26k miles) checks out so I’m confident it wasn’t a track car but seems to have been sitting for 10+ years long story short I’ve got the car home and examined it and ordered / fitted parts there were missing, to date F1 Relay (Scud Inc) TCU E Diff module Transmission pressure sensor Today was suppose to be a first attempt to turnover after removing spark plugs and lubricating cylinders before rotating by hand but no joy upon inspection the accelerator controller is missing along with some other random plugs in the same area I’m by no means a mechanic but can get stuff together, question is, have I bitten off more than I can chew or can the Ferrari Chat community help me save a F430 from the scrap yard? any help is greatly appreciated Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
I would let the 430 rest in peace/pieces. A bargain or a potential neverending moneypit. Stuff you want to assemble costs huge amount of money and you don't know exactly how many things you have to buy or change. "There is nothing more expensive than a cheap Ferrari" (cit.)
With rescue cars like these, you usually need to know the cars in and out to make it work. Helps to have another one in the garage for comparison. If you're asking the internet community to help you get a car running.. you're not in a good place. I recently bought a little 996 that had been sitting for years like this car.. with a leak in the rear sunroof drain. I only asked the seller "does it run". My project is working great because I know the 996/986 platform so well that I have spare parts in the garage and can do all the work myself. If you don't know the electrical systems sell it. Sorry bro.
RHD cars can be tricky because you don’t know which wiring harnesses have been reversed/mirrored compared to the standard LHD workshop manuals. The orange plug is a toggle switch plug which may or may not be used on your car. Later model Ferraris have a lot of standard wiring harnesses for ease of manufacture, so there can be a lot of unused plugs. e.g. 6 speed manual connectors on an F1 car. Can you post a picture of the switch panel to the right of the steering wheel? The 3 plugs in the second photo look like Window ECU plugs, but I’m not sure where the ECU is on RHD cars. You may have to list the wire colours (including stripes) for the other plugs to help us with identification. Or some closeup photos. If you’re in it for profit, I can’t say you will make one. Was the car actually sitting in a waterproof and temperature controlled “barn”. The engine not turning doesn’t sound good. That sounds like a priority. Do you have a boroscope to look inside the cylinders? Are there any signs of flood damage? Everything is fixable with time and money.
Depending what you paid for it- consider taking bits and sell the parts, as some parts worth a lot. Engine and gear box worth a lot of money
sorry yes the engine is turning freely by hand and have all filters and fluids changed, this now the next step in order to get it to turn over orange plug is for the front release mechanism switch because that is broken so Thanks for that window ECU is definitely missing so that’s also another tick this is a long term project and not for profit
I’m not sure what I’m looking at in the 3rd photo. Is that broken wire or small connector. Cool… I’m definitely on board. Excellent. Then it may just be the absence of the F1 TCU preventing cranking. That provides a cranking signal. You can bypass the F1 TCU with a jumper wire on a certain plug, but make sure the back wheels are off the ground if you’re not sure if the gearbox is in neutral.
You may need a good OBD2 scanner once you have all the missing parts fitted. @flash32 may have some good suggestions. Maybe some shots of the boxes and wiring behind the seats will help us. I assume you have a good battery and that you’ve electrically checked all the fuses with an ohmmeter (including those near the battery and in the frunk).
working my way through it all step by step. New battery fitted, just noticed some missing parts underneath the dash I’ll get more pictures tomorrow but from my research I’m obviously missing the accelerator module and also the window ecu
You are going to need to become an expert in the art of part identification using the illustrations that Ferrari and vendors have....your new bible.
Ok, quick update got window ecu installed and all works fine so good result there I’ve an accelerator controller on order as it was missing but I’ve noticed a bracket behind the brake pedal and a multi pin plug to the left of it as to suggest I’m also missing some sort of control module? I’ve scoured through parts diagrams online but cannot seem to identify what goes to that plug. pic attached for reference Image Unavailable, Please Login
