I've never calculated MPG in my 488 or F8. Never thought about it and realized these cars do not have MPG readouts...LOL.

I only checked it twice for amusement. BUt i am SOOOOO confused and flat out doubtful of some of these guys saying they're getting 15,16, 24 MPG!!! Absolutely impossible. I don't know if it's delusion or bad math but I've had ferraris for 23 years and not a single one ever got into the double digits and I drive like a complete PxxxY

It's neither impossible or bad maths. If you're only managing single figures driving like a 'complete pxxxy', you either have a fuel leak or you're driving around in 1st gear.

I agree with the cost thing vs an Audi R8...but mileage? I keep the car so high rpm...I'll never get good mileage ever!!!! LOL

I saw there is a 488 Spider for sale with 82,000 miles in Arizona. Looks like it did 40,000 in its first year ! I also saw on Facebook a 488 with something like 300,000 km in Europe.

For owners of R8s, please don't take this the wrong way, but I feel like the R8 is one those cars that look better than it drives.

It's logical that a turbocharged engine tends to use less fuel when driven calmly - I remember my 599 was drinking a lot more than the 488 when driven quietly on speed limited public roads; on the track the 488 still uses less fuel but the margin is very narrow.

Absolutely and this comparison between R8 and 488 is a good example of this . 10 cylinders require more fuel than 8 and 5.2 litre vs 3.9 most certainly does.

Considering the Gen 1 was based on a Gallardo and the Gen 2 on a Huracan I think you are mistaken. The R8's drive just as well as they look.

@ipsedixit no offense taken at all. The gen 1 with the V8 was absolutely superb and perfectly balanced. Sweeping turns at 140mph felt totally and completely planted. Its hard to describe how great that car felt in turns. Was it quick? Not really at all. And lot of people my age and younger had that car in our walls as a poster like prior generations did with the Testarossa and Countache. It was ground breaking in that it was relatively affordable and truly is great daily driver.

The V10 is much much faster but not as well balanced. I prefer the V8, but 90% of people want the "cooler" V10.

Neither car is a race car and just feels more of a boat compared to a Ferrari. Its supercar looks at sports car pricing and thats the segment and budget range I was in when I bought it. Its a great car and surprisingly good all rounder.

My main issues with the 488 is it ticks less boxes, mainly daily driveability, than the R8. I bought my last R8 in Nov of 2024 and have already put 25k miles on the car because I just love to be on the open road in a fun car.

I wonder if the 488, while exciting significantly more passion, would get used less so overall less joy.?.?.

I think a Ferrari would give you considerable joy, just probably not as a daily driver. Obviously there are always exceptions but the whole point is to elicit tons of joy ever time you sit in it. The beauty of having more than 1 toy/exotic is that they are different. Put the R8 away at weekends and break out something different, a little more special, exciting and exotic.

I don’t believe you buy any Ferrari and make it a daily. These are cars that are meant to be driven hard but for short bursts a few times a week. If you can afford to keep the R8 and add a 488 for the weekend that would be the way to go.

Isn't the ride a bit hard for everyday use unless the roads around you are in good repair?

Regardless of ride you don't get too much attention? Concern about where to park it? Getting it dirty or dinged and scratched on the daily? More power to you and I'm totally against garage queens as well but I'd be too stressed out to daily a 488 esp a pista as every month it seems like it goes up another $100K haha. I have a 911 turbo for daily. Truly stealth.

I daily'd my 488 for about 10k before the Pista.

Take both on Costco runs (the best is when I am waiting in line at the Costco gas station, the looks you get and people taking photos for their IG feed are priceless).

I park the car everywhere and anywhere, even when I go shopping at the 99 Only Store (as shown below).

At the end of the day, it's just a car. A very fast and nice car, but just a car.

If a person is too stressed out to drive a car that they own, then they shouldn't own it.
