Yah. I don't like Russell at all, but he is 100% correct on this. As we discussed many times too, you could make running off ruin someone's race without putting their lives in danger.
Yup - low hanging fruit here and it works. Many tracks in the US and Canada do this and it works pretty well most of the time.
Assuming this is true, it makes sense that Lando would have an advantage. He has more experience. When he first came to McLaren, the car was supposedly very weird to drive and clearly not a top performer. I remember when Sainz joined him and the first thing he said to Carlos after he drove the car was something along the lines of, "she's a weird one isn't she?". Piastri came into F1 in one of the best cars.
maybe, but than again, it seems Sainz cannot drive any car properly, what an ass. for me Sainze s clearly one of the most overrated drivers on the grid. He still makes rooky mistakes for as long he is in f1.
Not his fault that a team he joins has a good car. For his 3rd year, he has better numbers than many many drivers already. He has a good future.
I think it’s just the simple fact that most men don’t like athletes who are whiney or come off as entitled, spoiled girls. I don’t think being British has anything to do with it. Just look at Stroll. I do see how Lando’s effeminate nature and pouting rub people the wrong way even though I don’t have a problem with him at all. It’s a sport. People will have their own heroes and villains. No different than baseball, football or soccer.
the solution would be making the run off area a dead end with no way to cut the corner. If you run off then you need to turn around and come back onto the track where you left it, after the rest of the field have gone past. That would of sharpened vestappens (and others) attitude on the 1st corner a little more. Either you allow everyone to get away with it or penalise it. Make leaving the track a masive problem for the driver, not maany places to do it in Monaco or Baku so they keep within the white lines if they want to. You could see that 1st corner incident unfolding when he stuck his car 4 abreast, he knew exactly what he was doing. Russel was bang on the money...for once! Best tony PS and why calling him crashstappen isnt helping?
If we put gravel down instead of grass, maybe Russel would have not complained, especially if Max hit the wall. It was an exciting few laps, and Bearman caplitilzing was awesome. F1 is not perfect, no doubt.
In some go-kart tracks they have a system that cuts the power when you go off-track, so that you loose a lot of time before it goes back to normal - if it's available for cheap go-kart rentals, I can't see how it could beyond F1 technology...
How dare they?! People are free to believe as they wish, of course, but when one considers what McLaren has at risk in terms of its credibility and legacy, sponsorship and future driver recruitment by such a scenario, believing it calls one’s credulity into question. Speculation is fair, even amusing, but some seem to consider it as fact. I think there’s plenty of healthy drama this season without calling an entire team’s ethics into question without a lot more evidence than what we know now. Piastri’s recent poor performance isn’t something that the team has cooked up, but the constant chatter about it is probably getting into his head, so it’s counter productive. As for your gravel pit suggestion, I agree with the sentiment but I’m afraid there would be more safety car laps than racing laps! “Bring out the lift truck again, boys, another ones gone off.”
Either the turn around zone or a thick gravel trap, both work just as well. Hell a narrow lane at the very end of the gravel trap next to the tyre wall with a couple of tyre walls for zig zagging around to ensure zero advantage is gained does the job. Max pushes the rules to the limits, but most of the time he is within the rules. Be as pissed at him as you like but he doesn't write the rules, he just exposes how stupid the rules are and at the same time uses it to his advantage. The same option is out there for every single other driver. It confirms prejudice.
It looks to me that Norris is maybe the fastest of the pair, but Piastri the better racer ? On one lap, Norris is flying, but when it comes to wheel to wheel racing, Piastri seems more agile.
His move on Russell was very very savvy yesterday to get past late in the race. He is fun to watch. His record in Jr formula was very good. His confidence on low grip surfaces seems lower than Lando and that can yield pace differences. I also think Lando has been working on his own setups/issues and data to get back into a good flow for himself.
You must have noticed that there are far less foolhardy overtaking attempts in places where there is no chance to escape scott free, and more where there is the possibility to get away unscathed. In that respect, compare Silverstone or the Red Bull Ring with Baku or Miami.
The rate of closure required to pass in the current configuration is .5sec. I watched drivers yesterday and as they left the final turn / accelerated onto the main straight they had to be at .4 in time/distance or so to pass unless it was a drastic mismatch- RedBull passing Alpin. At .6 or .7 no passes were happening for those more matched in pace. This will not be the case next year at the start lol. The move to ground effect has basically killed racing most desire. The aero next year will be interesting. The aero now is as bad as previous non ground effect rules in my opinion.
