Hi. i have a 308 gtsi euro 1982 and it seems to be (among many other bits) missing the silencer lower heat shield/air deflector. They seem easy enough to source but I’m not sure of the fixing points. Does anyone have an in-place photo of one on an actual car please as I can’t for the life of me see a location for it on my car but I would like to install one.

    Thanks, Sammy

Not sure what your talking about.

Are you talking about the panel that goes after the lower clip behind the battery? If so it's secured with several screws.

Found this online. I think this is the defector you are thinking about, but it's more for the rear manifold than silencer. On my car (77GTB) at least, there are two tabs on the bulkhead to mount the upper corners, and two on the horizontal crossmember (where the rear motor mounts are) for the lower part of the shield.

Yes that’s the one. Thanks for posting the pics. Yes I see now, i was looking further back on the car. I wonder if it plays a part in forcing cold air into the engine bay to help with cooling because as you say it is not near the silencer? I think I’ll try to fit one.

It deflects air to the hot exhaust. Does it keep things from cooking in the trunk? Maybe. Many cars dont have that shield anymore.

It may certainly help with cooling the muffler/cats, but the whole aero design of the car makes the area behind the rear window, above the engine deck,a giant vacuum.

The country road to my house goes thru a cut of essentially talc earth. There was mudslide of that talc one year, and it covered the road, road crews cleaned it up, but there was thin layer left on the road.

I drove over that talc layer at about 40 MPH, and a huge plume of white talc was lifted off the road and ejected out the louvers over the engine, it made viewing impossible via the rear view mirror, and a friend following me said it looking like an old time steam locomotive smoke stack was on the back of my car.

I do not have that shown heat shield/duct plate on my car, just the diaper. Ansa exhaust, no cats.
