I have seen it Joe, question is, why put yourself in an impossible position on the far outside left, 4 abreast on a RH bend..... it was done on purpose. There is no way he could turn right without wiping out the top 6 cars or more, so For me he knew that and took to the escape road, great excuse. Had he tried to stay on the track he would have been forced into the mid pack and way out of position, on the wrong tyres and held up by slower mid pos. cars. That small excursion saved his race and why he was able to challenge for second place. It deserved a penalty.

Going off track and then coming back on (at speed) he was in a much better position than he would have been?

Should a car leave the track the driver may re-join, however, this may only be done when it is safe to do so and without gaining any lasting advantage. At the absolute discretion of the Race Director a driver may be given the opportunity to give back the whole of any advantage he gained by leaving the track.

How could he check it was safe to do so? Mirrors!

Any time sir winless is involved there is controversy. Crashstappen. Give it a rest. There is NO better driver on the grid. It’s sir winless who is dangerous.

Where would he have ended up if that run off was much slower than going around those two turns! Thats the lasting advantage, its inmaterial he was infront of GR, he left the track to retain the place over GR and then forced Hamilton off on lap 6.

Since when did Sir Lewis Hamilton come into the debate over 4 years ago. I am not defending him or anybody come to that

Turn 1 incident: At entry 4 abreast, Russell behind. Leclerc and Max bail out and rejoin. Max gives the place back to Hamilton, Leclerc should have done so too. So if any penalty was given it would have been for Leclerc.

later incident: Max gets level with Hamilton and makes the corner, ie he is in control. It is his corner, Hamilton has to back out but doesn’t, he turns in and bounces off Max off the track. He then rejoins and pushed Max off. So definitely not in a safe way. Max was ahead at that stage anyway so could rejoin and keep the position. If anything there was a potential penalty for Hamilton for unsafely rejoining. Then on to the next one, where Hamilton locked up and went off track, whilst behind Max. Hamilton rejoins way ahead and keeps the position. He didn’t give the position back and by the time the stewards judged his case he was more than 5 sec ahead of Max. So 10sec penalty fully warranted. It’s not so difficult when you apply the rules.

The one guy who lucked out twice was Leclerc. No penalty after turn 1 and a controversial VSC let him keep 2nd place as he was just about to lose it. I can imagine Hamilton was pissed as he lost out but that’s racing. Same with Russell. You don’t get gifted a place, you need to overtake first. Always been like that.

I get all that Joe, but had he not done a banzai braking maneouvre into turn 1 he would not have kept the place, he was destined to run wide and go off the track, in my view on purpose and therefore its a penalty. He was the instigator of the whole episode.

If others have done it then I agree they should get done as well.

Ask yourself who is the common denominator in all the contenious incidents, surely its not everyone elses fault!!

 

With all due respect I find it hypocritical that you have no problem posting your own criticisms and strong opinions yet when anyone else here does you condescendingly attack them or tell them to "grow up". Why is that?

Perhaps you don't like Max. Some people don't like Lewis, You're a self proclaimed team guy some people aren't and so on. No one is right here or wrong, it's all a matter of opinion in an open discussion forum. No different then ball busting while having a beer together in person. Everything here IMO should be taken with a grain of salt and a sense of humor.

 

Did I say three into T1 was OK? As far as I know I didnt, obviously it wasnt as CL had to take avoiding action too. I dont know where you stop except make going off track a severe handicap.


Agreed, MV did make the situation worse and possibly hoping the other 3 would take another out. It was of his own making, he outbraked himself, locked up and slid off - so now we call it racing.

For me you miss the point, (i respect your opinion btw) had he not outbraked himself and stayed on track his race was compromised entering T1 in that position (nowhere near the racing line) as he would of been forced to slow down much more than GR who was behind him on the racing line, by going off track he did let the place back to LH but avoided the bottleneck in T1 and possibly being overtaken by GR. An advantage others didnt get!

for once GR was right to complain.

when he rejoined the rules say "if its safe to do so" that means he has to "look" luckily no-one was there and he got away with it.

The only credit I'll give MV is it was carefully calculated and well executed.

I didnt say it was and yes they were lucky but it was controlled, the main culprit and stick of dynamite was MV.

Lap 6 Not leaving LH enough room perhaps?

is this a safe re-entry onto the track, look at it in full speed?

Numerous examples throughout, Ollie Bearman jumping him when he was forcing GR off track was beautiful
