What do we think about the current junior designer who seems to be the lead for the 12 C. Andrea Miletello was appeared as the face of the design team during a press video explaining the design of the coupe and spider. What surprised me was his choice of clothing. A designer naturally cares about aesthetic and detail. “I wanted chic and sexy. What we got was over weight and sloppy. Is it too much to ask for a thin well groomed female paratrooper?” (The Devil Loves Prada, film)
I wonder if the EU will impose a penalty tax on all ICE and ICE hybrids after 2035. This a great way for politicians to appear Right even when they are Wrong. Oh sorry I meant to say LEFT.
Where are the Ferrari Electric gonna charge? I live in Malibu and this is a popular place for Tesla. There is a Tesla charging station located in an upscale shopping mall, right in front of a Blue Bottle coffee shop. And there is a Tesla dealership next door What is the charging station density in the EU? Is Ferrari going to use a conventional charge plug or will Ferrari decide to do their own bespoke plug which will only be connectable to a Ferrari connection? Is FErrari going to offer their own residential charging station for EU use? How much will Ferrari garage for this? Maybe 20 times what Tesla charges. When the Ferrari batteries die , how much is a replacement pack? 100K or 200K?
Are Ferrari batteries going to spontaneously combust, forcing their owners to keep them parked outside?
Tesla and other large EV producers are looking at Salt and Aluminum based alternatives Also looking at shorter range but faster charging time in a daily commute battery Pair that with a long range battery for special occasions . So you are not charging a long range pack for short range commutes. Most commutes are less than 20 miles in a day. If it takes 5 minutes to re charge that smaller battery then it’s a win Tesla strategy.
A few in Germany have seen the light, but it’s too late the ecoweenie climate hugging deindustrializers have already destroyed German’s ability to make cheap energy. They have lost their competitive edge and their smarter manufacturing base is leaving for “greener” pastures.
Tesla doesnt not develop battery chemistry. They buy battery cells from suppliers (i.e. Panasonic) and then package them according to their car designs. Ferrari doesn't develop battery chemistry either. Battery technology is not their business, they are not a battery cell maker. Their business is sports cars (ICE, hybrid and eventually a few BEVs). What matters is for them to package the available battery technology in the best way possible for the intended application. That is why they are not interested in Formula E either, which is Mickey Mouse racing and a spec formula at that (Ferrari always builds the power unit and the chassis in whichever series it races). Not to mention that Formula E batteries are manufactured by a third party also. Ferrari develops battery application know-how in F1 and the WEC. Ferrari dabbling with battery chemistry would be like them starting manufacturing their own petrol. There are specialist companies for that.
Ferrari has no expertise in packaging batteries. They bought a few Tesla to study and copy. Sadly they are having to play catch -up. They are starting the electric race from the back of the pack with a ten second penalty to boot. The best EVs aren’t made in the EU even. It will be interesting to see if their product is any good. All of the minuscule production will be sold. They are not trying to sell any kind of volume and EU customers will be forced to buy Electric. What is the customer willing to spend for a Ferrari Electric designed by Manzino?
I am sorry but that is incorrect. Ferrari has plenty of know-how from its F1 and WEC involvement. The fact that you keep mentioning Tesla, baffles me. Keep in mind that EVs will be a small percentage of their portfolio.
The other interesting factor will be if the electric Ferrari will end up competing against the Ferrari ICE /Hybrid in markets where customers have a choice. An Amalfi all electric will be faster than the ICE/Turbo and have more storage space to boot. ( Pun intended) An all electric 12 Cilindri would be faster and have space for 2 sets of clubs and luggage too. That would be an nice alternative to the V12 with the small boot.
Of course the name would require some adjustment Instead of being named V12 it would be a 12V meaning voltage!
