Hi guys, so i am now looking into fitting a new audio system, as some may know i do not have the car in my possession atm as it's going in for paint for a couple of months. As i understand it 6.5" will fit into the doors, however has anybody measured the maximum depth allowed before the speaker interferes with the window? Also can anyone tell me the diameter of the hole and possible depth for the tweeters in the dash?

Looking at these right now, but if the matched tweeters do not fit and the door speakers do i might have to find another component system since i imagine they put a fair bit of work in getting the balance perfect which probably reflects the price, ouch. Probably going for the retro Blaupunkt Bremen head unit. Crossovers will likely be mounted either side of the trunk if this system works. Then possibly a slim amp somewhere else, not sure where yet.

Just an update, after doing some more research and talking to some audio hifi specialists, it appears the these driver units are just ridiculously priced, the guy i talked to literally coughed, stuttered and asked me to repeat the p..p..price lol He build's top tier home speakers and sells Morel driver units. I had a feeling these components couldn't be 4 times better than the next level down the chain of car audio brands and now i have confirmation. Still need those measurements though if anyone knows. Cheers.

Good luck finding space for the crossovers and the amp.

I have an Alpine ktp445 powerpack thing squeezed under the centre tunnel trim on the drivers side, an Alpine head unit, some upgraded tweeters, Alpine 6.5s in the doors and a pair of rears I made from some very small Sony Home Theater drivers in cylindrical pods I made & covered in leather to match the rear shelf

I used to have a sub in the passenger footwear but I took it out. The amp for that went on a board that fit inside the spare wheel, also now gone.

Long story short, car audio in a 328 GTS is a bit useless unless you run it at ear bleeding volume. I spent a long time messing about with it including fitting Dynamat in the doors & on the floor. It was a fun project but ultimately all a bit pointless!

Yeah i feel ya, but then again i used to have a 66 mini with 6x9 pioneers on the rear shelf, now admitedly the boot underneath is the perfect size for a speaker enclosure but the car is built like a tin can, no sound deadening and a pretty raucuse engine, gearbox and fruity exhaust (RC40) and i did turn it all the way up, it had those rear windows that flip out on a hinge at the back, right next to the rear shelf i used to practically start block partys on the streets of new york, try listening to "Atmos - Random Landlord" and you'll get an idea where i'm coming from although my taste in music is pretty eclectic in general. Sometimes i like to crank the volume above talking level and just cruise with the tunes bangin.

Passenger footwell is where the PO of my former QV GTS had the power amp mounted with dimensions that - just eyeballing it - seemed comparable to the morel amp listed above. Ironically, I had that car almost six years and turned on the stereo exactly one time....to check that the power antenna was working properly when I was getting ready to sell it! :p

Ok from what i can tell from your stories i will never get that "symphonic" sound inside this car, it sounds like Lain has gone as far as i would go and did not acheive a satisfactory result. Now with options such as time alignment, EQ settings and other tuning options on the phone app on the new head unit i have decided on, and only going with a two-way component system, i have decided i woud like to avoid the complexity of an amp running dsp and a 3-way system all requiring more wiring. I talked to an installer mentioning space is critical, i really do not want to take up any storage space as i want to do road trips with a parner in the future, so at most now it will be upgraded 6.5" door speakers and tweeters, and a new head unit.

The head unit will be the new Pioneer SXT-C10PS and has plenty of power for 2 tweeters and 2 6.5's, i looked at the blaupunkt bremen unit that has a similar retro look, but there is really no comparison, build quality and features are on another level confirmed by multiple professional installers. Love the idea of a cassette player but really not practical in this car, i will run everything off my phone or my partners no more need for storing physical media and being limited to a few tapes as with the current alpine unit.

So it really comes down to measuring the mounting depth to figure out which 6.5's will fit. I heard Scanspeak (made in Denmark) are very good, also Focal and BLAM (Made in France), they all have smaller crossover units and if i go with the Scanspeak (custom units that not sold as a system) i will have an audio specialist create a compact cross over that can be hidden behind the dash. the Morel system are just too expensive (£3500) unless i felt like i was sitting in a audiophile listening room, i will save the money for a nice home system.

Anyone has that has done speaker upgrades in the doors that knows or could check what depth their new speakers are by looking up their specs, i would love to know. The door is plenty wide enough as its shaped like a coke bottle but it's the window interference that is an unknown to me.
