I was also and Towbin was there with an Amalfi, Purosangue and some others. I drove down from St. George and didn't purchase a ticket as I wasn't sure I was going until day of. They had everyone herded like cattle through that process. If you didn't have your purchased ticket with QR code on your phone it was a hassle to buy a ticket while in line. I had to scan a code that took me to a website and I refused to go through that crap on a phone in line to get in. So I had an attendant do it for me. Then they also asked for my DOB (they put in a fake one for me). WTF? Bro, I'm buying a fricking ticket to go look at some cars. I'm not going to be a sheep and tell you everything about me just to get into your stupid car show. I was pissed. You mean you can't walk up and whip out a card or cash and buy a ticket? Everything is an app and tracking your every move nowadays. Seeing so many of the same hyper cars got old real fast. They all looked the same after a while. I did see and meet with some friends and that calmed my temper down after that. Image Unavailable, Please Login
I said that same thing: it's so overwhelming to have all that in one place that even $2,000,000 cars were sitting off to the side with almost no attention. There was a gray Singer 930 that [as I passed] was in this small odd spot kind of beside/behind the Rolls display, and a Pininfarina Battista cast aside the Lotus display, etc. I don't totally blame the organizers as overall they had a solid layout idea - although I heard that the Lambo lineup was moved from one golf hole to another at the last minute, but yeah once you have a row of 30-40 $2-5mm Paganis by the 10th one you're just looking for something really novel. While any one of them would totally dominate a local Cars & Coffee event!
That's 90% of the reason I very rarely do these events anymore. The last time I went to Monterey for "car week" was when they wanted, needed, and valued your patronage.....that's many decades ago. These days if I go to these things and feel like a sucker by the end.
Seeing pictures in a few of my friends social media - looks like an absolutely insane event. Most ever Paganis, Bugattis and Lamborghinis in the same place. Madness.
This is the car they picked over mine. It was sold recently for world record price in Monterey. Long live the Fiat Dino! Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
LOL. Actually I'm not missing any parts. Its being paint corrected right now. Should have it later this week. Unfortunately this car had a bump in the rear from shipping it. I rather felt for the guy because fixing it won't be easy.
This was arguably one of the best car gatherings, period. Several people told me they think it’s better to do this like Wynn does in two days than all the craziness of car week in Monterey. Despite some issues, we do hospitality and convenience better than any other venue. Like I said they had Pagani, Koenigsegg, Czinger, and the leaders of all the hottest restomod companies in attendance, even that new Aston DBS… I don’t blame Towbin as much as FNA for not getting behind this event and showing some cars. I spent the better part of an hour hanging out with the Ferrari guys at the dealer display and it was interesting to see the car guys act kind of ho-hum about Amalfi, Purosangue and 12C, which are the open order books. The SF90XX just delivered was in a different area of the show, they didn’t have any 296s in the dealer area. There was a TdF also in a separate area of private owner cars, and some 250s, 275GTB, F40, two 348 and Daytona in the vintage show area.
