    Way more than a normal engine fire. They made it to V1. Should have been straight forward.

    This must look terribly familiar to those who’ve been around aviation for a while.

    At O’Hare the engine departed due to failure of the fuse pins in the pylon. It damaged the left side slats and their hydraulics and caused them to retract. I wonder if the MD11 has a mechanical slat lock to prevent asymmetry. The DC10 did not. The recorders will tell us all eventually. Tragic.
