My neighbor's son has a new Portofino which he parks in my neighbor's parking space in our garage but lives out of town so the car sits idle for long stretches of time. Being a condo, no trickle chargers are allowed (ridiculous, I know but that's condo living for you) so I was wondering if it's OK to install a battery cut-off knob to preserve the battery's charge or will this cause problems with all the electronics?

The owners manual suggests there is a cut-off switch (p174) but there's a selection of procedures to be followed both before and after use

Recommend reading owner manual and talking with dealer service advisor. I've never stored my 2016 Cali T that way, and it is similar to the Porto.

As has been pointed out, there is a disconnect switch: The negative battery cable lifts right off. I suggest a Braille lithium battery, the I48CS.

Sorry for the confusion because I only saw his car once last year: It's a 2025 Roma Spider rather than a Portofino. Other than the page number in the owner's manual, would the Roma also have a battery cutoff switch?

OK, I've downloaded the owner's manual and page 224 states that "only qualified personnel" should use the battery quick-release. And yet it goes on to tell the owner how to reconnect it and instructions on what to do before starting after reconnecting so IDK. Do any of you use your battery quick release?

I have used it on my Portofino, but there is no "only qualified personnel" warning.

The only time my battery has been disconnected from rest of car has been for battery replacement in my garage following dealer instructions.

I recommend that the vehicle owner be the primary caregiver on this topic as there may be downsides for the vehicle for non-battery maintained scenarios. Maintainers are pretty common on lots of car brands for modern vehicles with complicated computers onboard and in low-usage circumstances.

have you considered a battery powered pack with an AC outlet ? The draw from the tender isn’t much and it should last for weeks if not months.

    something like this unit

For whatever reason, the Roma manual says that but I think it's nonsense because it goes on to instruct the owner the reconnection procedures.
