    Hello everyone,

I’m considering replacing my standard OEM rubber brake lines with HEL stainless steel braided lines and wanted to get some feedback from those who’ve made this swap.

My current brake lines haven’t been changed in probably 5–7 years, and once the brakes get up to temperature, I tend to feel a slightly spongy pedal. I’m hoping the HEL lines will help improve pedal firmness and consistency, but I’d love to hear from anyone who’s done this upgrade — in what ways did you notice an improvement compared to OEM?

I plan to order directly through the official HEL website, but I’ve read in a few threads that some people received lines that were longer than OEM or had incorrect fittings. For those who ordered directly from HEL, did you provide any specific instructions to ensure the right set (like mentioning the model year, VIN, or referencing factory dimensions)?

Since I’m based in India, I’d like to make sure everything is correct the first time — returns or replacements would take a while.

Appreciate any insights or recommendations before I place the order!

    - Ari

    Hey Ari,

Are you comparing this feeling to how your 458 felt in the past or other cars you drive, that have steel brakes? If steel, that might be simply throwing you off and they don't need replacing.
PS: Where in India, I was in Hyderabad for a friend's wedding, couple years back. Was an extravagant 3 day event! :)

Although not on my 488, I have used both Goodridge and HEL on other cars and found them equally as good as one another .

I had read about the wrong length too, but my dealer had no problem with the set I bought. As to feel, I never thought my previous brakes were spongy, but they were definitely firmer after switching. I feel like I'd really notice the difference on a track, but I don't do that.

The 458 is the only car I have with carbon ceramics, The pedal feels quite spongy at times and I want to be on the safer side by replacing the lines as I feel the OEM lines have been on the car at least since 2017 if not since delivery in 2011. I don't track the car but the firmer pedal with these HEL lines would make things better.

I'm from Pune! Nice to hear, did you visit the Taj Faluknama Palace while in Hyderabad? Indian weddings are festivals in their own right haha!

HA! That's where he had the wedding and what a magnificent place! He rode in on a white horse with a huge band proceeding him. :)
