Great design should be immediately recognizable. However some designs will earn their place after time has passed. One might think of it as being too soon for its time. Polarizing is an interesting concept when it comes to ideas and designs and art. New ideas often are conceived as an opposite reaction. Then the next idea reverts back but not exactly to the previous one. So it's not a circle. But more a gyre. Hegels thesis and anti thesis. Fashion is a good example of how the new season often borrows from the past but with its own contemporary influence. I’m not a car designer. But I think Ferraris have a unique DNA which is now lost. Engine music was one of those DNA traits. The Ferrari sound is famous. No other car had this sound. The all electric Ferrari has lost that. The face of the front of Ferraris had the central egg crate grill and lights that were its eye’s. I think my old 360 broke that . No center grill but instead two side openings with the crates. The rear of the Ferrari had round taillights. Now not carried over in the line-up. Let’s hope there will be a circling back to these traits. It won’t be an exact copy though.
The 360, the 458 and the 296 were all pretty big departures from their predecessors. And all had their detractors, particularly at launch. But I don't remember the u-word getting used. At all. And now... Not saying I agree with that. But, fair to say it's polarizing. And I don't think that's a good thing.
I recall the first non press debut photos of the 360 —it was called the ugly ducking due to it front face. But when people got used to the car it went sky high. In Los Angeles you couldn’t get a car. Tons of speculators paying over sticker in one way or the other. New cars trading hands for 360K USD! I recall being offered a manual shift Red Black car at sticker and Turing it down because I wanted a red tan F1 paddle shift car. Wow. I missed the boat! Then I turned down the 360 Challenge car because I had my Red Tan F1 car and was so in love. Another missed car But then Ferrari became the most sought after exotic in the world and very difficult to obtain an allocation unless you were Arnold, Sly, Dolf etc
Anyway, I’m warming to the design. And Enzo willing I hope to get an allocation realized, not just words, but a car. Just have to find a way to pay for it. Ha. Still wondering about the name. 840 TR is a much better and easier to remember name. 8 cilindri and 4.0 liter total displacement. ‘Otto quarante’ Vs “Otto trentanove’
After my Puro I will be getting an 849 allocation. I'm hoping to get a Speciale type reservation. But I love the 849 with the Fiorano in Giallo Ambra. Here is likely how I'd spec it. Would love to get F80 style Rims like these on it tho Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Plus these tires Image Unavailable, Please Login
The ones on the Red car which is actuall a 296 speciale A spec that I'm not high enough to earn an allocation for. Black with the Chrome looking rim. Hopefully after my Purosangue i can get more rare specs, would love to get a 849 Speciale A if that's what it ends up being? Pista, XX, we'll see but that's my goal for my next new order...
