    Was he trying to dump fuel which caused the very long fire trail? I heard it was fully fueled as it was headed to Hawaii......

    A lot of speculation as to why at present. Facts are the port engine detached after V1.
    That caused the fire.
    The rest I hope becomes apparent the sooner the better.

    Both UPS and FedEx grounded their MD fleet today. Roughly 9% of their aircraft.

    That leads me to suspect structural failure not maintenance.
