    Thanks for your reply. I understand that there is a difference in the shade of yellow between the original style and some newer styles. What I’m wanting to do is make sure that I’m getting what originally came with the car. Is that what these are that you referenced ?

    108947 was earlier, superseded by 340066 (see the info on Maranello site). You can ask them what year the superseding caps came out so that you can establish whether it was before or after 1998 (the year of your car).

    108947 is correct for a 1998 355. In addition to being different in color the 340066 caps don't have the O-ring seal. I couldn't find any of the 108947 in the US so ended up replacing both of the caps on one side with 340066 so at least they matched.

    Color aside, the 340066 is a significantly improved design and construction. Instead of the crappy 'all plastic' 108947 which cracks/crazes, the 340066 is a plastic disc with an aluminum printed sheath and a steel retaining circlip to hold it in place.

    Unless the car is literally sitting on a concours field in California, the old caps are (in my very personal and perpetually unpopular opinion) junk.

    I prefer the early correct caps with the black plastic back. The different yellow stands out like a neon light. They have the look to me of a Chinese import.

    As for quality or durability my 90 TR still has its original caps in perfect condition. My 328 has replacement early caps I put on about 15 years ago and they are still perfect. They were only bad because the car had been treated so badly for so many years. Not sure how many decades of life rates as good.

    In FCA for national events we decided 2 years ago to deduct for the late caps because they do not look the same. It was a unanimous decision of about 30 judges present at the time.

    So many things can go wrong on these cars yet people care about insignificant items such as wheel center caps. Absolutely pathetic.

    Some may be different but personally I hate for my cars to look like ****. Do as you like.

    As for so many things can go wrong?? Same on any car. Mine work great. Sorry if you have trouble keeping up with yours but I have found keeping up with the little things keeps the big ones at bay. Its a mind set.

    Cut your condescending crap. You know nothing about how good my cars are.
    Since when did wheel center caps made in a difference in how well a car ran or drove? Nerds who care about a slightly different shade of yellow should be kicked all the way to the poorest areas in the world to put things in perspective. It's not just a mindset, it's education.

    @Timmo,

    Please exercise some self-awareness and dial back your own condescension.

    @Rifledriver

    While I realize you weren't the instigator, please refrain from calling other people *******s.

    All the best,
    Andrew.

    Well, feel free to join the boat of the immature and petty who care about a slightly different shade of yellow on an item that makes f-all of a difference on how a car drives. At this stage it's not even immaturity anymore it's just plain mental illness. This kind of BS is exactly what gives the Ferrari brand a terrible image.

    I don't think it is appropriate to argue about the effect of different wheel caps on how the car drives in a thread which is merely about what wheel caps were originally fitted to the 1998 F355 Berlinetta.

    I agree. I was only reacting to so called "judges".
