AC question

My 308 doesn’t either!

 

A 328 sit in a traffic jam all day with the AC going in Riyad Saudi Arabia in mid summer. 308QV was another story. Dealing with the cooling issue is why the front end was redesigned on 328.

 

I must be lucky- (with my QV) but it’s seldom that hot in the UK.

 

The more relevant question would be whether the AC is even working & if its not what you can do to fix it.

If a 328 is overheating there is very likely something wrong with it.

 

I don't know what the A/C is like on a 328, but I can tell you even after retrofitting my 308 with an updated system and more powerful fan, the thing isn't going to do much for you in extreme heat. It might do a LITTLE for you in normal heat.

I think mostly because the vents just simply suck and the air doesn't really get to you very well.

With the top on it's much better, but with it off... nearly useless.

Your legs will get cool though ?

 

You can't make a 328 overheat assuming the cooling system is in decent shape. I've sat in 108F stopped traffic with the ac on (which did little to cool the cabin) and the car is perfectly happy to sit there all day or until you run out of gas.

 

Clarity is needed with your term “ overheat “ ?
Is it meaning the coolant temp increasing ?
Or the cabin temp increasing ?

 

Mine does not . I dont run a cat converter either , theyre useless. Only for emissions pass. My motor compartment runs at least 15 degrees cooler . My AC has all been re built .

 

The 328 was designed with better cooling and a better heat exchanger for the AC to make it more efficient. However I don't think the AC makes a 308 run hotter.

Now, any system in the world that is not operating properly will over heat. But my experience is that even in stop and go traffic in 110 F ambient temp the 328 does not overheat.

The 328 condensor does not sit in front of the radiator but to the passenger side so no heat from AC system will approach the cooling system.
The old system from Dino legacy had condensor directly in front of radiator that will cause affect

 

Yep, as mentioned, the 328 ac condenser and fan is in its own compartment which is totally separate in function (and distance) from the engine cooling system fans/radiator.

 

Is anyone aware of a drop-in replacement condenser that is recommended to improve a/c performance (308 and 328)?

several years ago. Except for my hamfisted connections, it has been a quite satisfactory change.

I searched long and hard for a "drop in" condenser that was more efficient than the OEM piece. What I came up with
was not a drop in, as you have to fabricate connection tubes and mounting brackets. Came from classicautoair.com

Did the system come with new front to back, long AC hoses? If so, how did you get them through the rocker panel routing tunnel?
