Can someone confirm whether or not its possible to replace the water pump with the gas tank and heat shield removed? Considering doing the belt service this way and just discovered a water pump leak. If the water pump can't be removed this way, no choice but to have a shop do the engine out service.

    Thanks!

If you can do the tank and shield out service, you can drop the engine yourself. There's a jack stand guide on here.

You can replace the water pump without even removing the gas tank

If it is possible, it'd be a nightmare job.
PRetty sure you can do the water pump if you drop the tank.

No need to remove tank for the pump. You can take out the PS pump and have room. If you are planning belts there is no way for a quality in the car job.
Do it correctly and remove the engine.

I dont understand why you would do a tank out rather than as designed, engine out. granted you might save 1-2 hrs but thats it surely?

    3 reasons:

    A) i have a confined space to work in, so no room for the motor to sit somewhere while being worked on.
    B) easier to put the tank back in, than the whole motor.
    C) no need to drain fluids, and deal with A/C discharge/charging.

I've watch Ratarossa's tank out video around 20 times, and he sets tension, timing, and everything. Mine's actually running tip top so all I need to do is maintain timing by locking and marking everything.

Its also only just been 3 years since engine out and none of the cam or valve cover seals are leaking and I just recently changed ALL fluids and filters (including fuel). So thinking of doing the water pump, belts, pulleys, tensioners, plugs, wires, with the motor in the car.
