Ive just had through the post today one of those mailers you get from large Dealerships, but just before it was used in the Lav, I read it,

Pick up my car give it a good once over for faults bring it back £250.00 all in.

That dont sound a bad deal , face it, im 80 miles from Maranello,s workshops, perhaps they are short of work or really offering a good deal.. Shes off soon for the once over..

It isn't but then you can bet they'll make money out of all the things they find need repairing/renewing.

Even seen a tyre company offering free tyre checks ? They're not daft !

I also got it. MAybe I misread but the way I understood it you apy £250 for them to chack the car over and tell you what more you need to pay to get in tip top condition. I don't get it .. don't you get this for free when you take your car in for a regular service anyway ? I am positive that the initial £250 will soon turn to 500 + @ £100p.h. !

Listen guys, For £250 inc Vat may i add, they inspect your car, yes this could be a ploy to "FIND THINGS"wrong with your car. But they would have to advise you of it before anything can be done.

My car is only 16 months old so i doubt theres alot wrong if any......My point is that if they check it over and find nothing its a reasonable cost which includes collection and return.

Do you think they would make a prob then? Just to cover costs? I doubt Maranellos would risk that old chestnut, after all we not idiots are we.

I can just hear it.." Mr x on inspection we have managed to find a few minor faults, that will be £6,900.00 and how would you like to settle your bill Sir" That would only really work on once, and reputations begin to melt away.

No i think it a genuine offer to give your car a spring check, you could at least take there report under advisement get them to return the car and seek alternative advise.

    Just my opinion tho Guys.

    Joe,

You'll also have that "official" bit of paper telling you that there are no faults, and that's gonna be useful when it comes to sell it\trade it in when you get the CS.

P.S. We still up for tonight?

Why don't you just pop into a local Independent Ferrari Specialist? You get to drive your car (much more exciting than watching it be carted off on the back of a flat bed truck), you get to chat to some real enthusiasts, they will put the car on 2/4 post lift and show you around it, and you will probably make some very useful friends/contacts. Won't cost you anything at all - most of them wouldn't dream of charging for such a service 'cos it's their opportunity to build a potentially long term relationship with you...

    Just my £0.02 mind...

I wonder... Two weekends ago I found out that the three intermiediate window wiper speeds on my car did not work (i.e the 3 postions when I move the stalk up and down do work but not the ones when I rotate it). This was the first occation I tried.I bought the car last Oct privately but had the full check from Maranellos. They did not pick this up (they did pick up that the offside mirror did not have vertical motion). I also got a full 2 year guarantee from them but the car was under 5 yrs so I got the two year Power Plus (£2,000) which does not include electircs. I also paid them another £2k for a thorough service at the time.

Do you think I have a right to claim that they missed it and do yout think they will fix it ? I am sceptical. When I had asked if they would look at the mirror to see if it can be fixed they said £50 +vat to have a look (30mins) but they doubted they could do anything apart from change the mirror (apparently it comes as one unit and cannot be fixed in most cases) for £750 + paint + VAT !!! Based on that I am scared even to ask them to have a look at the window wiper !

P.S. I will be on Holiday and I wont have a chance to see any replies till next tueday but I would appreciate your opinions.

I think you should try to claim at all possibilities, else why are you paying so much for the main dealer warranties/services/checks? They blantantly charge way more, and you should expect a good service in return (not them finding loop holes in the warranty, then saying you can't claim). Independent specialist charge way less for all these services, and would definately want to build a relationship, so would cover these things if they could afford it and hope you returned for future business. This is the way I have been treated by Joe Macari (very well) - and they are rewarded by my future business.

QV at Ascot can repair the mirrors or have damaged ones that they could sell you the workings of to resolve the problem

Sorry, I just missed something off. I seriously don't think a specialist (such as Joe M) would charge you to look at the mirror for 30 minutes. They would do that as a kind gesture in order to win your business. Secondly they would charge nearly half that, 30 pounds, for half an hours labour. There seems to be a massive difference in attitude and price between main dealers and specialists, which I'm sure has been discuss to death in other threads.

It's true though, it's basically bringing work to their door, but when I had my car checked over Glenvarigill charged me nearl 300 quid for the priviledge and found a few items both in and out or warranty like a wishbone and stuff so it works in both favours I reckon, just depend whats going wrong and if you rreallt need it fixed as I'm sure you were not too bothered about it before it went in.

My car got a new clutch at 13k miles this week and Maranello said "Ah thers a bush needing replaced, if we dfo it when your clutch is out then it'sll save you the labour cost of about 200quid when it goes, but they said it wasn't goosed just "very" worn and would probably go soon, so it does pay too.

    Mark,

I have been using QV on my 308 for 4 years now and I am extremely happy with them .... seriously I cannot praise them enough. Mike has always been up front and straingh forward with me and has always delivered what he said ... and always on time !!!

    Cheers

    Ade,

I agree. I'll give them a bell and ask. It's probably just me being apprehensive ! Overall I must say that I although I find little price flexibility with Maranellos, all the work they have done to the car is absolutely top notch and that is why I go there. I have heard many horror stories (and had quite a few of my own - pre QV) with independednt specialists so irrespective of the warrantee situation I will try and steer clear of them if I can afford it. Certainly for little things lise the mirror or stalk I would go to QV if M's does not ablige as I think that would not invalidate any warrantee.

    Cheers
