Best procedure for 348/Mondial t engine removal

    I've got an engine out service on my Mondial t coming up and am wondering if anyone has a documented 'best and most efficient' list of procedures for removing/re-installing a 348/Mondial t engine/subframe?

    I searched the archives and the net in general but can't find much.

    COmments appreciated.

    It isn't complicated to remove the engine. I have taken the engine out of my 348. Here is what you do for the 348:

    1) Disconnect the battery and ground cable

    2) Jack the car up then remove the rear wheels, innner fenderwells, exhaust shields, and rear bumper. Be sure to use wheel stops and jack stands

    3) Drain all the oil and coolant out of the engine

    4) Disconnect the a/c lines, after the a/c system has been evacuated

    5) Disconnect the ecu's behind the seats, and the wires in the engine bay going to the coils and exhaust ecu's

    6) Disconnect the oil lines and cooling hoses

    7) Disconnect the fuel lines on the fuel filters, and the lines going to the fuel rails.

    8) Disconnect the break lines and the parking break cable

    9) Removed the cover under the gas tank and the one covering the the shift cables at the gear box

    10) Disconnect the shift cables

    11) Disconnect the throttle cable

    12) Place a dolly under the engine subframe. I used a half ton moving dolly.

    13) Lower the car onto the dolly

    14) Remove the nuts and bolts holding the exhaust to the subframe.

    15) Remove the nuts and bolts holding the rear part of the subframe to the body. These are closest to the exhaust

    16) Remove the bolts holding the subframe to the body.

    17) Remove the nuts holding the shock towers to the frame

    18) Raise the car up in the air about 16", or until you have enough room for the top of the intake plenum to clear the bar at the rear of the car were the front exhaust sheilds were

    19) Roll the engine out part way, then rotate it 90 deg. so the shock towers can clear the bar at the rear of the car where the exhaust shields were.

    20) Roll the engine out the rest of the way

    Again this is in general how to remove the engine out of a 348. I'm not sure exactly about the Mondial T, but it should be pretty similar. Happy engine removing. Oh yeah before you ask. After every thing was drained and disconnected it took me four hours to drop the engine out of my 348. Just take your time, check double check, and tripple check your work to make sure you don't miss anything. Happy Wrenching.

    By the way, these photos were taken in early '99 with an older digital camera so I don't have anything of a higher resolution available. I will document my 348ts engine removal in a few months and post the pictures here at that time.
