Does anyone now what the differences are? They seem so similar I can't decide which might be the better buy.

    basically the same car

but one costs more and looks like the bastard child of a 911 and a hippo

i'd get the VW if i had to choose one

The Cayenne and the Touareg are developed side by side and share the same platform. The Cayenne takes over where the Touareg tops out, with some area of overlap. Since you are looking at the Cayenne V6 level I would say that you get better value and satisfaction with the top from the bottom than the bottom from the top.

One word of advice. Do not testdrive the Cayenne Turbo. There is no way back.

I am looking to replace my Explorer and have become smitten by both these models. I have plenty of other performance toys, so ultimate performance is not my criteria. I was thinking the Porsche would hold it's value better.

Buy the Porsche if you can afford it. Its a Porsche. :)
Im a long time Porsche lover, and I dont care if they made an SUV
I wish Ferrari would too. SUV's rule, at least they have a purpose
other than moving people from point A to point B like a car.
    Flame on SUV haters.

My wife's tt has 19K miles. If I could own only one vehicle this is the one I'd choose. It is a GREAT truck. The engine is fantastic.

Won't flame you. Having lived in Bellevue for a few months, I can see where you are coming from. Seems like WA is the capital of SUVs ;)

Bmw 540i wagon over SUV for me anyday ;)

i've got nothing against SUVs, don't get me wrong, but lets face it..99% of them will never get dirty and the porsche version will sertainly never go off road!, if i had one, i sure as hell wouldn't drive it down some muddy bank/mash/swamp lol

if people off road SUVs then Great, do it. buy one and get it dirty.

but over here in the UK were space in towns and citys is pretty cramped already. we don't need any more massive offroaders with one person in them taking the kids to school :(

But like i said, if u need an SUV, then i have no problems with that. i'd still get the VW over the hippo tho, and i'm a porsche fan.

I test drove a Cayenne V6 & a V8 Touareg (FULLY LOADED) and I enjoyed driving the VW more. I know the Cayenne is a "Porsche", but the engine is a disgrace. I'd rather be driving the Touareg.
