Yeah, terribly sad. 360 is so ugly it should never have been brought to market. Pity the poor misguided folk who bought one. Somehow they missed the enlightenment of the 355 contingent.
Those idiots at Ferrari...how could they make such an ugly car as the 360.......even more so with the"butt ugly" a360 spider,,,..i get sick each time i see that car,, i want to throw up!!! such an ugly car that is still has a 3-4 year wait to get one in the U.S...of course the the 355 is better in every way has the f chat owners always tell us...i owned a 355 spider for 2 years and made the mistake of getting a 360 spider...what a mistake!!!the 360 shifts better, sounds better with a tubi, handles and steers better, ismore comfortable, more reliable, much stiffer and lighter body, better aerodynamics, better top mechanism, and gets 10x more compliments from people on the street..I am such an idiot!!!!.....i only bought the car the same reasonas the 360 people did..so i could fit my golf bag i n it as i cant afford another car to go golfing in....When i joined this web sit i though this was a good way to communicate with like minded ferrari people and fans to get give insights and info to each other but some people insist on bash other ferrari owners cars!!!!!
I wouldnt go as far as to say the 360 is ugly. I do think the 360CS is how the the 360 should have looked all along, but with more power. I dont find my 355 Spider all that visually striking also.
I like the 355, however, I just think 360 looks more like a supercar then the 355. My 0.02, of course they are both nice.
While those shapes are obviously pretty and attractive, to my eyes they are not as sophisticated and striking as the 360. The Modena is a resounding triumph of metal sculpture. It is beautiful in a different way from almost every angle. The 355 et al, are simply much easier. I remember the first picture I saw of the Modena, back in a 99 issue of Road and Track. It was silver. My jaw dropped. It was unlike anything I had seen- smooth and sharp at once, sculpted and clear, complex yet flawlessly executed. Other cars are certainly as beautiful but they accomplish it without much risk. They do it easily, with one or two lines. I think the revolutionary beauty of the shape has been taken for granted of late because the cars are constantly seen. Nevertheless, it set the standard for everything in, above and below its class, in looks and performance- Gallardo, Porsche, Ford GT, Aston DB9- everyone, except perhaps Porsche, had the 360 as its target. The 550 redefined the GT class in a similar though less striking fashion, way back in 1998. It literally broke new ground. Today, five and six years later, everyone knows how it's done and are competing for a piece of this pie, why, how? Because the 360 and the 550 cleared the way. They set the standard. It is interesting how short the memory can be, no?
ah this is the point!! the 360 set the standard in 99 as did the 550. But when Ferrari moved away from the 'classic look' they moved into a different market. When you are setting standards and selling the car more on ability and power rather than looks thats fine but whats happening now is that many othermanufacturers and entering the market with products that are superior and this is a batle the 360 has already lost. Whereas people that buy a 328 355 buy the car because it looks a classic Ferrari. I dont think the 360 sets the standard at all. Although I dislike the back of the Gallardo put one next to a 360 and it looks light years away and indeed in performance it is.
My thoughts exactly. I've been able to afford a Ferrari for some years now, and the first irresistible model for me was the 360. Gary
The 360 is not an ugly car. IMHO, it is not as nice looking as the 355 but the bigger difference is the spirit and character of the car. The 355 is a small, compact, screamer of a sports car. The 360 is a bigger, more practical, more refined car from Ferrari. There are lots of people that came into the Ferrari market with the 360 as a result. I am one of those people that doesn't want a Ferrari that makes me feel like I'm driving any other car and that's the feeling that I get from the 360. You sit higher, it's bigger, it's more refined and it just doesn't feel like a special car to me. That doesn't not mean it's not well built, fast, great handling, etc. It just doesn't feel like how I would like my Ferrari to feel. The 355 is exactly what I am looking for. I love it. I am on the list for the 360 replacement. I am one of those people to hopes that the new car is a little more raw than the 360. We'll see.
i was going to but a gallardo but when i went to test drive one...UGLY!!!!!!!too many sharp angles and geometric shapes that just work!!!!it is a great performing car but the steering feels dead...
Well said. When I first saw the 360, my dream cars were (and still are) the F50 and the Mclaren F1. The 360 had the key lines of the F50, but in a much more subdued and practical package... incorporating some of the unique versatility and cleanness of the Mclaren design. I was instantly in love... and it was a car I could afford/justify!! Agreed. A few years after falling in love at first sight with the 360, the Murci-lardo came out... many of the same design elements as the 360... but squared off and inelegant... striking, but not beautiful by any stretch... its as if they couldn't figure out how to manufacture the curvy shapes, so they just straightened them out into sharp unsophisticated trapezoids. However, the Murci-lardo was not ugly or mis-proportioned... it was a worthy successor in my mind to the Diablo... though not any better looking. When the Gallardo came out, I was excited to see a smaller, lighter Lambo... and it looked pretty good from the front... but when I saw it in person, I was horribly disappointed... looked chopped off... had everything that I disliked about the Murcielago, but was not proportioned right... ugly to me. Looks heavy and cumbersome and big... even though its a tiny little thing; looks exotic but unsophisticated; purposeful, but ugly. (But the looks aren't the worst part of the Gallardo design. Ooops, I'm straying off topic...) Back to topic... I find the 360 to be much more beautiful than the 355... but its a completely different look. If you prefer the more angular lines of the classic Ferraris from the Magnum PI and Miami Vice days rather than the curvy lines of the vintage Ferraris from the 50's and 60's, then the 360 probably won't do much for you. I prefer the P3/4, the 246GTS, and the 360 over the angular classic Ferrari lines. Though I like them all... the 355 is great looking! I just love that Ferrari offers that variety... and look forward to seeing where the next generation of Ferraris, starting with the Enzo, will take us. I suspect I'll continue to prefer the 50-60's and the 90-00's over the 2010's (based on the Enzo), but I'll enjoy seeing what Ferrari comes up with!
I didn't like the 360 body style and now I really like the car. I am going to sell my Testarossa and get a 360. I love the 360 spider. I don't care for the 355. Just my preference! I agree, the Testarossa has the best ass!
I note from your large Profile of cars owned you definately talk from experience.....You obviously hate this car, anything about it etc etc etc..I get your point so why not just move on...or even buy a classic ferrari.....Go figure!! Image Unavailable, Please Login
Oh i dont have a large number of cars owned at all. This is supposed to be a fun debate thats all. Im sorry I started it and wont do so again. Ive realised on this board that one should never make any comment detrimental to any model and this forum should be about self gratification of our purchase choice!!
I thought this was an interesting thread because, frankly the reason I own a Ferrari is because of how it looks. If all Ferraris were equal in terms of performance and cost, my preference list would go like this. 1. 246 2. 328 (just a polished 308) 3. 308 4. 355 5. 348 6. 360 In my opinion, the 246 is still one of the best looking cars on the planet (and no I don't own one). The 360, though a very nice looking car doesn't hold the appeal that the earlier cars have. The 348 was the first in that "modernization trend" that started somewhere in the 90s that had most marque's producing that rounded fluid, spit out of the same frickin mold, something or other. It was scary that from a distance it was difficult to tell a Mercedes, Lexus, or Ford Taurus apart. Ferrari jumped on that bandwagon for some reason, because apparently all car designers have lunch at the same cafe. I know this is all just a personal view of an artform, and should obviously consider an F50 or an Enzo, but though they are downright freaky, I wouldn't feel comfortable driving one - someday I'll figure out the psychobabble behind that. They just seem like a huge "look at me" sign. Beautiful cars, but museum pieces.
Well said, I think this is a bug all Manufacturers have, its probably the need to stay in front of their competitors...bigger and more stylish brands and designs...one designer probting anorther and so on so forth!! In the end the original Classic look gets distorted...Just my opinion of coarse.. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Its funny how some people freak out about how anyone can possibly think a 360 is ugly and in the same breath call the Gallardo ugly. Get real people. These are exotic cars, they are all cool in there own ways. You may prefer one over another but"ugly" is a little over the top. Kinda like saying Halle Berry is hideous compared to Heidi Klum. Yeah, I guess you wouldn't be caught dead with either! Or can't get either so must trash them!
The 355 is my favorite Ferrari design in terms of looks inside and out, The low front nose the beautifull rear, But the 360 also has a very nice wide rear the front could be lower but that why the raised it from the 355 cause of the bottoming out issues. Favorite Car in terms if probley the Murcialgo then the 355
Bad analogy... Halle and Heidi are like 360 and F50... somewhat different, but both beautifully exotic. Murcielago and Gallardo are like Schwarznegger and Stallone... both exotic looking and both impressive... but neither qualify as beautiful... at least not to me. But I'm sure there are those who'd disagree. Again, that's why I love Ferrari... they make a variety of cars that seem to cover everyone... almost everyone loves at least some of the Ferraris.
