Ok my wife whimped out but my buddy drove the 550 to the Pelican
Hills event yesterday. From about 40 mph to about 120
the Gallardo and the 550 did a little sprint.. The Gallardo got an early 3 car jump and gained only another car length or so before we shut them down
(for upcoming traffic safety). I was surprised the 550 did better than I thought it would. It was no cakewalk.

I'll get a before and after dyno done.

4 car lengths in only 80mph is a BIG difference. You should run them from a dead stop and video it. Or do a roll on to 180mph and then see the difference.

Yes I have. They are not very fast. A Viper or a 996TT would also beat a 550.

A 996 Twin Turbo will walk all over a stock 550 all day long. Guys in stock TT's are turning 11.90's all day long. A 550 couldnt run close to that unless going downhill at a steep incline.

Wow, I thought the Lambo would be at least 7-8 car lenghts considering the weight diffrences, about 350 lbs. Good showing by the 550 :)

It would be interesting to see the distance between them racing up to 160 MPH!

I bet that 0-100mph there would be atleast an 8 car difference between the 2.

Allan, I would think that it could be possible for the Gallardo get 7-8 cars for it has a very good 4 wheel drive, therefore, easier to launch!

But, the 30 MPH to 150 MPH would be the true life test between these two cars (or any two cars for that matter). It is very rare that someone would agree to drop their clutch from a standing start, more so when your car is 4 wheel drive (like my 996tt :) ).

None the less it would be fun to watch these two at it ;)

It's all relative. In a straight line the two would be closer than on a track that's for sure.

As an example, at the Hockenheim small track a 575M gets its a$$ handed to it by nearly three seconds by a Gallardo:

    1:15.1 - Ferrari 360
    1:14.7 - Ferrari 575M
    1:13.2 - Porsche GT3
    1:13.0 - Ferrari 360 Stradale
    1:11.8 - Lamborghini Gallardo

Three seconds on a short track is an obliteration. Also it was nice to see the Gallardo finally put an end to the nonsense "But-the-Stradale-beats-it-on-a-track argument" that was floating around here for far too long.

The three fastest cars on that list would make a pretty nice garage eh?

I think if it had been from a dead stop it would have been much greater
as the AWD would haVE a great launch.
Also my Gallardo has about 1200 miles on it. It should loosen a bit more
with a few more miles. At any rate the 550 (which has Tubi) was no
    slouch.

So a Gallardo ladden with extra weight toasted a 550 with exhaust. I wonder what would happen if the Gallardo lost that 100pds and the 550 were stock.
